When I drag you all along on my capricious love affair with Red & White Stripes.

Roses, Hotel Costes in Paris last week.

Hi there! Remember me??

I’ve had another grand adventure and finally back home to put pen to paper, so to speak.

.

In Lisbon, I found some of the most beautifully cobbled  streets in the world. (Sorry Prague :( )

.

Traveled by an old wooden boat through the Douro wine region of Portugal

.

.

Devoured Portugal’s famous egg custard tarts for breakfast and dessert

Every day.

No, seriously, every day.

You only live once. Reason enough to visit Portugal.

..

Experienced a true Princess Moment (albeit on a shockingly bad hair day)

.

Learned about Lusitano horses and wine…

.

The procedure for uncorking very old bottles of port

.

and, as always, continued my quest to find the World’s Worst Dessert.

So far, no luck.

We hobnobbed with jockeys

Did a wee bit of shopping in Paris (It was Fashion Week after all :) )

Saw Kate Moss twice in one night

and enjoyed some world class people watching…

all of which I’ll share with you over the next few weeks.

Just as soon as I get unpacked and plow through the mountain of mail that faithfully greets the weary, wine-soaked traveler.

Despite the grey skies, it’s nice to be home.

Hence, here we are, almost at the end of summer (say it ain’t so!!)

and me still sitting on a stash of unfinished seasonal posts that never had their moment in the sun

Though most of you could have probably lived without seeing this shot of Gisele,

 I did, so now you have to.

Besides, it’s a great pic to leap into a little post about the preponderance of fluorescents this summer, is it not?

 I’m sure they were in all the magazines, but it didn’t really register until I went to Paris.

The flash of fluorescence was everywhere.

My great girlfriend, who lives there, had her nails painted like so;

I thought it was adorable. (please forgive the poor photo- it wasn’t originally intended to be a hand shot)

Then another friend joined us from Australia- she too had little touches of fluoro in her look; a sweet combo of tiny bright enamels on chains around her neck.

Suddenly I felt terribly beige.

The Hermes, Paris windows were gorgeous.

 Each one a different fluorescent colour, these circles slowly turned causing the sand within to create art in motion.

J’aime Marc et Louis

I had the wonderful opportunity in Paris last week to sneak away with a couple of girlfriends to take in the Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs exhibition at Les Arts Decoratif.

What fun!

Although I never got the chance to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met (missed it by one day, not that I’m bitter)

I did see the Princess Grace exhibit in London and I must say the “Louis” show is far superior.

While my menfolk were climbing the stairs of la Tour Eiffel, we girls were engaging in some good old fashioned Fashion New vs Fashion Old chat,

Which included the big “What the hell happened to our waists in the last hundred years” quandary

.

Several walls covered in video screens bombarded your senses with cultural icons, film clips and the multitude of ways in which Jacobs, in his role as designer for Louis Vuitton, is inspired.

Definitely one of the highlights of the exhibit.

who truly appreciate over the top luxe decadence & glamour.

Although hardly befitting my lifestyle-as I live in the land of sweatpants & Uggs, and though I often bemoan that fact, I’m guilty as charged :(

Still,  we can all dream.

And really,

One does need someone to carry this to prevent snagging One’s coat on the gems, duh

A-line coats, jewelled  leather skirts and cropped trousers in tapestry fabrics adorned with flower-shaped buttons…

.

  Embroidered jacquard, sumptuous brocades, jewel toned holograms and resin gems appear throughout the collection.

Enormous  hats embellished with fur plumes and high heeled mary-janes heighten the drama.

I am thrilled to be writing my 400th post from Paris

I really can’t believe that I’ve been penning “Slim Paley” for 3 years now-

Mon Dieu!

To have 400 posts under my belt

(albeit one notch looser after a week in Paris)

feels like quite an achievement.

I must admit, I’m quite chuffed with myself.
