Red & White Stripes (Part IV?)

It could even be part V

In any case, it’s that time again!

When I drag you all along on my capricious love affair with Red & White Stripes.

Remember these from yesteryear?

Marc JacobsShe could be a little happier about carrying that bag, couldn’t she?

013fullscreenPerhaps the models weren’t too thrilled about their hair. Seriously. I could have done the hair for this show.

And don’t worry… your computer hasn’t developed dandruff. It’s snowing!!

I always forget about this cute WordPress feature and I’m charmed when it returns every December.

Damn. You can find anything and everything in Paris.

You know what I love? The grandness of the pillars with the down-homeness of the red & white stripes & bamboo-a bold combo in its own way.

J’aime Marc et Louis

.

.

I had the wonderful opportunity in Paris last week to sneak away with a couple of girlfriends to take in the Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs exhibition at Les Arts Decoratif.

What fun!

Although I never got the chance to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met (missed it by one day, not that I’m bitter)

I did see the Princess Grace exhibit in London and I must say the “Louis” show is far superior.

.

.

While my menfolk were climbing the stairs of la Tour Eiffel, we girls were engaging in some good old fashioned Fashion New vs Fashion Old chat,

Which included the big “What the hell happened to our waists in the last hundred years” quandary

.

Several walls covered in video screens bombarded your senses with cultural icons, film clips and the multitude of ways in which Jacobs, in his role as designer for Louis Vuitton, is inspired.

Definitely one of the highlights of the exhibit.

The Marc Jacobs Fall 2012-13 collection for Louis Vuitton is a veritable Alladin’s Den for those

who truly appreciate over the top luxe decadence & glamour.

Who…

MOI??

.

.

.

Although hardly befitting my lifestyle-as I live in the land of sweatpants & Uggs, and though I often bemoan that fact, I’m guilty as charged :(

Still,  we can all dream.

.

.

And really,

One does need someone to carry this to prevent snagging One’s coat on the gems, duh

.

.

.

A-line coats, jewelled  leather skirts and cropped trousers in tapestry fabrics adorned with flower-shaped buttons…

.

.

.

Embroidered jacquard, sumptuous brocades, jewel toned holograms and resin gems appear throughout the collection.

.

.

Enormous  hats embellished with fur plumes and high heeled mary-janes heighten the drama.

.

excruciatingly gorgeous

Hiking Romero Canyon in Montecito

Holy shit . Goodness Gracious Yikes! It’s Friday already?? How’d that happen?!  Let’s see…I had company all week, worked on the design for our new Boy Barn, went for a great hike, watched the season premiere of Housewives of New York City (double yikes)…and BAM here we are already!  I guess what I’m trying to confess is that I didn’t pull a “Friday Favourites” together for you this week.

Instead, I’m  sharing a delicious confection of one of MY VERY FAVOURITE colour combos

and a sweet new song by Lykke Li;

Enjoy!

Lanvin Fall 2011

As you can see, I’m still in High Fashion Voyeur Mode with all the new collections strutting down the catwalks in Paris this week

and what a decadent box of jewels it’s been so far

Glamorous, luxurious, positively sumptuous; filled with divine fabrics in gorgeous jewel tones that could almost make one forget about summer altogether (I said almost)

Let’s just hope the economy catches some of the creativity and excitement we’re seeing on the runways…

Well, perhaps we won’t hold our breath, but in the meantime, if your travels take you to New York between now and June 5, 2011 you might want to stop by The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum to catch “SET in STYLE

an exhibition featuring more than 350 pieces  designed by those Big Boys of Beautific Baubles Van Cleef & Arpels.  I know I’ll be stopping by for a gander :)

Not something I get a lot of wear out of, but hey, a girl’s gotta have her capricious moments…

Probably from the 30′s ?

.

Dior Fall 2011

Most unfortunately,  John Galliano had a few not so capricious moments in the past week I’m quite sure he would give anything to rewind.

I really hope he gets the serious help he obviously needs…

It’s been quite the week for outlandish behaviour has it not?!

Ironically, the name already being bandied about as a possible replacement for Galliano at Dior is Haider Ackermann, who I’ve mentioned before as a relatively new favourite of mine.  Based on his previous collections, I wouldn’t have thought his edgy style would be a good fit at Dior and yet I see some  similar sensibilities between his most recent show and Galliano’s- what say you?  (BTW- I’m loving his collection but ixnay on the hair and makeup-ay, no?? )

Rich Rusts

.

My front entry hall

I don’t know…something about this weather…it’s just not enticing me to come out and play. It’s not so much cold, as just pale, insipid, uninspired.  I’d much rather sit by the fire reading “An Object of Beauty”, Steve Martin’s latest book, the not so distant din of football on in the background every room.  Oh…my…Gawd.  Is there a gas station between me and the rest of this football season??!  I have a sneaking suspicion that Hockey Season is just around the corner too. I’m hearing “Syd The Kid” being bantered about waaay too much for comfort.  Were you aware there is a God amongst us named Syd (or is it Sid??)

Achh- sometimes it’s kinda tough being the only girl :)

I started off my day beautifully with some lovely, stretchy yoga followed by a big English fry-up complete with white bread fried in bacon fat and lashings of white truffle salt on my eggs. Courtesy of football watching husband.

Then, for some inexplicable reason, I felt the need to go back to bed.

Now, I’m back up, and guess what? Football is still on. I know. It’s shocking.

So.  I said to myself; Slim, it’s the perfect day to post your “Cayenne/Rusty/Rich” theme.

I’ll let you figure that math out :)

I grow these ‘Hot Cocoa’ roses in my garden.
