Sunset Style

I haven’t been around lately to enjoy the Autumn sunsets so this one tonight caught me quite off guard. There I was, with my back to the window chatting away on the phone, only to finally stop talking, turn and catch these last vivid streaks.

It never fails to thrill me even though I’ve lived in Santa Barbara almost 20 years.

It’s always nice to share isn’t it?

So I thought it would be fun to introduce a new regular series relating to items I love in the great big world of Beauty Products.

As always, please DO feel free to share your favourite recommendations in my comments section as well. (But ixnay on marketing, please!)

Some items may have been mentioned in older posts, so to those of you who’ve been S.P.BFF’s from the very beginning, please forgive any repeats for the sake of the Newbies.

I wouldn’t re-mention them if they weren’t, like, super great.

I’ll try to limit these items to things you would have in your medicine cabinet, purse, or travel bag.

I hope food doesn’t somehow sneak in, but I can’t make any promises. :)

From left;

“Miracle Skin Transformer” is a good “tinted skin enhancer” that truly does minimize the appearance of small imperfections and pores. It’s also nice that it has an SPF of 20. I believe it comes in 3 shades- I’m relatively fair (with yellow undertones) and use “Medium”

*Note;  Although I like this product a lot, please note that it does not play well with others- so if you need additional products, other than a light moisturiser, don’t use this on top or it starts to ‘pill up’. Save it for when you need only blusher and powder or bronzer, which doesn’t turn “Miracle Skin Transformer” into a pill.

Dikson “Argabeta Oil” is an Italian ‘Beauty oil’ for the hair with beta-carotene and Argan oil. It’s richer and more intense than “Moroccan Oil” and smells like some dark, exotic, mystery laden unguent purchased down a clandestine alley of a Moroccan souk.  I’m putting it in my hair when it’s wet &/or dry because my hair is thick and dryer than last year’s Christmas tree.

ByTerry “Source De Rose Hydra” Toning Lotion  long time readers know I practically supine myself at the “ByTerry” alter  counter in Barney’s cosmetic department. Their make-up and skincare products are out of this world. Unfortunately, so are their price points, but as ByTerry prices go, this one is somewhat reasonable. It smells of roses, like most of  the line.  LOVE.

Bobbi Brown Shimmering Fragrance Oil (for the body) Beach Scent;  smells like every wonderful memory of all the years you spent sizzling on the beach, wearing bikinis no bigger than a hangnail and not having a clue what sun damage or cellulite was.

YES- it smells THAT good.

Oh, plus it has a lovely subtle sparkle. (I wipe my hands in my hair after applying)

Klorane Lotion demaquillante apaisante au bleuet for sensitive eyes.  Soothing eye make-up remover and  hands-down, my favourite since I was a teen-ager. I could never give it up. I’m like Charlton Heston and his gun with this product.

Vichy Laboratories “Capital Soleil” 45 -full coverage with minimal ‘Casper Face’.

For lighter coverage with moisturiser; La Roche Posay “Hydraphase Intensive moisturiser with sunscreen SPF15″

Saving the best for last, I do adore the toothpaste I’ve been using for, oh, about a million years…Email Diamant.

Sure, it’s messy in the sink and on your facecloth but it’s worth it. The red paste leaves your gums pinker, resulting in whiter looking teeth and, not to be indelicate, but the deep tint also stains any plaque or food particles you might have missed when brushing-just like when you were a kid and the dentist gave you the coloured tablet after you brushed, remember?!

Lastly, yes, those are Biore Cleansing Strips in the corner of the medicine cabinet- cause who doesn’t love a little good gross?!

Now go wash your face so we can compare nose strips! ewwwww :)

“A Tree Grows in The Upper East Side”

I’m checking in from NYC where we’re attending our older son’s graduation from college. (Tear pops out of eye) I’ve got the extra strength tissues at the ready.

I know many of you have been through this emotional experience before, while others are casting loving glances at your little ones and thinking you can’t even imagine the day potty training will be finished, much less discussing cap & gown pick up.

I hope I don’t embarrass myself.

I really hate crying in public. Seriously. I have tricks I’ve almost perfected at sad movies and plays and can no longer watch anything to do with animals.

It’s a beautiful time to be here. Springtime in NY…

It gives Springtime in Paris a run for it’s Euros.

The weekend weather was perfection. We walked and walked – one of the things about living in NY that I miss the most.

Although today it clouded over and rained, just as predicted, I still walked over 6 miles (of course I have my trusty pedometer with me)

As my shoes were totally flat with leather soles, my feet are burning with the heat of a thousand suns and my toes are cramping up like little crippled Cheetos.

Drinking $8 bottles of water doesn’t seem to be helping.

How so many woman in Manhattan walk all these city blocks in teetering heels never ceases to amaze (and slightly irritate) me.

The ‘heel-less’ sky high platform, first seen at Alexander McQueen, is still around.

Not surprising given the obvious  practicality, not to mention never having to worry about getting your heel stuck in the hem of your pants or a side-walk grate.

Genius, really.

The Ralph Lauren windows, while at the other end of the spectrum, are always delicious.

Can I be Ricky Lauren when I grow up? (but  still be married to my husband, though I don’t know quite how that would work)

I snapped this photo only because I felt it incapsulated a little bit of everything downtown- a lot of beauty, a little garbage, promotion of the Arts and graffiti.

Such GREAT people watching too. Probably the best in the country in NY, don’t you think?

Bloody hell, there are a lot of gorgeous woman downtown.

As my mom would say, “Every Dog has it’s Day”

And speaking of’; my moonlighting job as “The Barktorialist” also kept me busy.

Unfortunately, because I have a mild aversion to getting arrested, one of  my  favorite NY moments had to go without photo documentation today.

3 New York City policemen locked out of their squad car on 5th Ave. and trying to jimmy the window open with one of those coat hanger/window shimmier thingies.

Hilarious.

You can’t imagine how hard it was not to grab my camera (or ask if they needed me to call the police :) )

More than a couple of 5th Avenue doormen were having quite a chuckle at the NYPD’s expense.

And what’s with President Obama coming to NY every time I’m here?!

Coincidence???

.

Finally, I treated myself to updating my make-up collection with a late afternoon visit to Barney’s. God I love the guys that work in cosmetics down there- they’re the best!

Im such  a sucker for getting caught up in the moment when I finally  succumb to the cosmetics department- are you?

I usually sprint through, just to save my credit cards the burn, but once I sit down for an application …it’s all over.

Naturally, I’m firmly convinced I’m going to look like this tomorrow morning

.

After all, a girl can dream.

Especially in New York.
