As you can see, I’m still in High Fashion Voyeur Mode with all the new collections strutting down the catwalks in Paris this week

and what a decadent box of jewels it’s been so far

Glamorous, luxurious, positively sumptuous; filled with divine fabrics in gorgeous jewel tones that could almost make one forget about summer altogether (I said almost)

Let’s just hope the economy catches some of the creativity and excitement we’re seeing on the runways…

Well, perhaps we won’t hold our breath, but in the meantime, if your travels take you to New York between now and June 5, 2011 you might want to stop by The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum to catch “SET in STYLE“

an exhibition featuring more than 350 pieces  designed by those Big Boys of Beautific Baubles Van Cleef & Arpels.  I know I’ll be stopping by for a gander :)

I really hope he gets the serious help he obviously needs…

Ironically, the name already being bandied about as a possible replacement for Galliano at Dior is Haider Ackermann, who I’ve mentioned before as a relatively new favourite of mine.  Based on his previous collections, I wouldn’t have thought his edgy style would be a good fit at Dior and yet I see some  similar sensibilities between his most recent show and Galliano’s- what say you?  (BTW- I’m loving his collection but ixnay on the hair and makeup-ay, no?? )

A Rose is a Rose (by any other name) Martini

In a shaker filled with ice ..
2 parts Capt Morgan Spiced Rum
2 splashes Rose Le Sirop de Monin
1 part of fresh pear juice
Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled champagne glass. Fill the glass to the top with rose petals .. which are completely edible and quite simply .. gorgeous. enjoy

Alexander McQueen Spring 2011

With Autumn officially upon us, the leaves might be falling, but in the fashion world a new star is rising; Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen’s assistant of 14 years presented her first collection for the label since his passing last February.  My knees buckle at the mere thought of how daunting this must have been for her but she rose, indeed soared with a beautiful collection both ethereal and strong. Cheers to her!

Friday Favourites Interuptus

Well- You won’t believe it, but I didn’t get Friday Favourites posted yesterday because the power went out . I was sick . I was kidnapped!!  Ohmigod. It was like super traumatic and everything, but my husband paid the ransom,  I’m home again, safe and sound and I think I gained a couple of new Slim Paley readers in my captors :)

Due to the kidnapping, I wasn’t able to shop this week (every cloud has a silver lining)  so my purchasing recommendations will have to be aborted ’til next Friday.  But hey- it won’t kill you not to shop for a week.  After what I’ve been through I’ve got a whole new outlook on life. Dressing comfortably, always having a good book and an extra snack in your bag for unexpected situations- these are the things that are far more important than the newest shampoo for dry hair.  That being said, I did want to share that my Thai connection came through and I’m happily in receipt of 3 bottles of the Rausch egg-a-licious mega shampoo for dry hair. Happiness!!
