I‘m just going to come clean and confess.

I’ve had such a bad case of blogging ADD lately that I’ve worked myself into a corner (bed)

My computer desktop is a mosaic of partially finished posts I can’t quite ferry into port.

Meanwhile, Life’s clipping by at an almost comical speed and the end of each day sounds a chastising gong;

‘You didn’t accomplish enough!’ gonggong

February 6th and already my New Year resolutions are in the “Fail” column.  I know that’s pretty much a given, but man, Feb. 6 is early-even for me.

Nike Fuel Band , slimpaley.com

My Nike Fuel band has registered this just once since January 1st :-(

I’m not proud, but there it is.

I think it’s broken.

The re-design of Slim Paley remains inert and that, my loyal readers is truly just the tip of the iceberg.

Patagonia slimpaley.com

Speaking of icebergs, I’ve yet to go through my Patagonia pics to write the two more travel posts I’d been planning.

I sit down at my computer, commence a blogging and then perhaps Pinterest, sultry siren that she is, curls her comely finger at me.

BTW, did you read this on Remodelista? How I learned to Love Pinterest by Diane Keaton (don’t read it ’til you finish my post!)

See what I mean? You peeked, didn’t you?

(I know I’m not the only ADD person around here )

Then, oh, I don’t know…the phone rings, the dishwasher breaks, my credit card gets hacked, more emails & texts pop up.

I go back to editing photos…hold the phone, wouldn’t this look great Waterlogued?? Wow-that looks so cool-I should have it printed!

In fact, I should print a bunch of them as gift cards, or maybe a book of Waterlogue photos on Artifact Uprising

Are you Waterloguing your face off?!

“Oh my — In the past 24 hours, I have Waterlogued EVERYTHING … old family snapshots, my friends’ houses, flowers, palm trees, sunset/sunrise, postcards, impressionists’ paintings, my toes, and on and on. Truly an impressive amount of fun for $2.99. Did you know that the creator has two other photo editing apps: percolator and popsicolor? Percolator looks kinda klimt-y.”

(Thank you to Slim reader Susan Hodges for her comment above on my last post)

Are you also aware of the oil painting App Glaze”?

and, and, and,

That book mentioned in the NYT’s this Sunday sounded fabulous, I should download it on my Kindle-whoah-what’s this? A choice of a free book a month as well as one from the Amazon Prime Lending Library…what else should I get? I’ve never read “Middlemarch” and this one recommended on Instagram looks good!

This could be the answer to all my problems

Wait, is that the time? I have to get to physical therapy!

797142e90277f393a9e3d0769fc426d3 I continue to make good progress-this is just about my range at the moment.

I haven’t even touched on the fact that it’s hockey season (I’ve switched allegiance from the Vancouver Canucks to the LA Kings who are killing me-nope, I take it back, they just scored! I have to go on Twitter for a minute)

Yes, I am watching hockey as I post.

K, I’m back. We won! Where was I?? Oh, and the Olympics are starting tonight.

Are you going to be watching?  I’m torn. I’m worried that Sochi’s like the kid who has a birthday party and nobody comes. Crap cake, bad party favours.

I want to support the athletes (not just the hockey players!) BUT it’s  just…

Let’s face it, it’s another thing to DO.

It will keep me from…DOING other things!

And believe you me,  I haven’t even touched on all the boring sh#%

Not going there.

Is it the weekend yet??

Have a Focused one :-)

The hockey game crushed me last night.  Cuhhrushed.  Who gives up 8 goals in the Stanley Cup Finals??!  Jaysus!  See-this is why I like fashion more than sports- less heart-ache!!  Sure, we had our moment there with the John Galliano scandal, but we’ve dusted off our bodices and put it behind us.  The Canucks, on the other hand… Ugh! I can’t even watch tomorrow night-too nerve wracking (Ok, truthfullly I would watch, but I’m not going to be home)  In an effort to shirk off the rivalry, the fighting, the debacle that was last night’s game, I’m diving headfirst into a very unabashedly Girly Girl post.

PS.  Dear Canada; Do not read anything into the fact that I finally finished my forms to apply for my American Citizenship today- I still LOVE you, just a little miffed with Roberto Luongo.

I think I’d actually be happy to find one product by  “By Terry” that I don’t love

Have you spoiled yourself yet??

Soups On, Fires On, Hockey’s On!

Sunset, Lake Tahoe, NO FILTER , LK's Grab BagPhoto of Lake Tahoe by L.K.

It’s pouring rain again today in Santa Barbara and a perfect day for a nice hearty soup!   A few weeks ago, we went to stay with some great friends of ours who live in Lake Tahoe and they served this fantastic soup one afternoon.  I ate it and promptly fell asleep on the sofa in the same room where everyone was watching a rambunctious football game.

Now THAT’S a hearty soup!   We tried it again when we got home and I must say- it’s a keeper.

Mountain Comfort Soup

(Original recipe created by Khalil el Zein)

Serves 6-8

1/2 cup butter (doesn’t it sound good already?!)

4 chopped shallots

3/4 cup flour

8 cups chicken broth

3 bunches spinach leaves (aprox. 1/2 lb.)  shredded

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

1/2 cup cream (plus a tiny bit more :)  )

1 egg yolk

A tablespoon or so of chopped basil for garnish

+ Add to taste; chopped up roasted chicken pieces (smallish cubes), mini shell pasta, very thinly sliced shitake mushrooms, roasted pine nuts (we added all of these, I suggest you do the same)

Heat butter and saute shallots for a few seconds.  Add flour and whisk continuously.  Gradually add chicken broth and continue to whisk until mixture is smooth.  Boil for 1 minute.  Add spinach, chicken, white pepper, mushrooms and any or all of the other embellishments above and cook for an additional minute (the pasta should be already boiled)

Just before serving, mix together cream and the egg yolk and fold gently into the soup and stir.    Garnish with a little chopped basil

Enjoy and Nighty Night!!

This was breakfast just a few hours earlier…which could explain the complete soup coma I went into after lunch.  But don’t they say you should eat every few hours???

In addition to sharing the recipe for the soup, our friends introduced us to “Good Earth” Original Sweet & Spicy Herbal Tea;  No SUGAR, no caffeine, and no artificial colour or ingredients (Ingredients
Red Rooibos, Chicory Root, Artificial Flavor, Rosehips, Cinnamon, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Papaya, Chamomile, Panax Ginseng Leaves, Anise Seed, Ginger Root, Dandelion Root, Orange Peel and Orange Oil)
Honestly- it is SO GOOD.  I’m totally addicted- I’m drinking at least two cups a day, and so is everyone else in our house.  I just can’t believe how sweet it is with no sugar whatsoever.  My friend is UNBELIEVABLY healthy and…oh, let’s just leave it at that for the moment because I don’t want to make you feel badly about yourself. I’ll take that one for the team.  I’ve just spent 5 minutes trying to think of something wrong with her…so far, I’ve got nothing.  Let’s just say that if she drinks the tea, we should all be drinking it too.    Available on Amazon Grocery.

Oh, wait… I do think she had a couple of hangnails-  and something tells me she’s probably crap at ironing.

Slim Paley Photo……………..Hurry!  Soups ON!!

Slim Paley Photo………Anyone care to have a word with that Ground hog again??

Go Team Canada!  :)

Sunday Chatter

Always nice to come home to Santa Barbara!

  As I do have a lot of catching up to do and tomorrow is Monday (argh), not to mention THE Hockey game that starts in a couple of hours, I thought I would write just a wee post about some completely random thoughts that passed through my  melon as I was traveling yesterday;

-And yes, that’s right, you heard me- I’m going to watch the Olympic Hockey game between the U.S. and Canada.  I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a hockey game.  Actually, I can’t remember the last time I was ever excited for a hockey game.  OK, I cannot tell a lie- this is only the third time I’ve ever watched a hockey game, but unlike American football, at least it’s easy to figure out what’s going on. I hope Canada wins.  Sorry, I’m just sayin….that would be pretty darn exciting for the Canadians.

But back to travel for a moment

-Is it fair to call a seat “reclining” if it moves less than 4 inches??  I’d say that’s more like a “Barely Discernible Tilt”

-Does it drive you insane that when the moment they announce pre-board  70% of the passengers, despite not having small children, need of assistance, or first class-tickets all run up to gate like they’re exiting a sinking ship?

-Is it not unbelievably rude to lean over someone and close their window shade without even asking??  (AFTER I had just finished decorating my whole window seat area)  Then if you open the shade again, all of sudden it’s The Sharks vs The Jets in West Side Story on Aisle 5.

.- and btw, you know the nice thing about Fed-ex-ing your bags on the way back?  You don’t have to face unpacking immediately! What a bonus.  Now if there’s a legit way of avoiding the mountain of mail that awaits you after a week away, I’m all ears…

- what I read on the plane;

-Do we care in ANY way about Tiger’s ridiculous apology?  (I guess by using the word “ridiculous” I’ve tipped my opinion)  And is it just me, or is his wife looking a little less attractive  since we’ve heard she might be taking him back??  I don’t want to be Slam Paley over here (although that could make an interesting post maybe once a month) but seriously??  She might take him back?  In fact, while I’ve got my feisty on for the upcoming game, I feel inclined to do a “SERIOUSLY??” post about quite a few things lately…

-Do we really care in ANY way how much Suri Cruise’s handbags cost??  OMG.  Isn’t she about 4 or something?

I believe my “handbag” at that age was a mitten with a partially sucked on candy and a pretty coloured rock in it.

-Who do you think is buying Kim Kardashian’s perfume??

-What’s up with John Mayer?  Does he not want any more dates??

- And lastly, this is not political in anyway, but I’m sorry White House-  CUFFLINKS as a gift to the Dalai Lama??  That has  REGIFT written all over it…

Go Canucks!!!!!!

.

Oh-and by “Canucks” I meant that like “Canadians” not like as in the Canucks Team.

Gawd- I’m not that out of it  (phew-thanks, sis)

Apologies that this is just a short post tonight, I have been a little busy of late, but I wanted to share these few photos of BEEOOUTIFUL Vancouver with you.  Rather than attempt to cobble together recommendations myself, as I unfortunately haven’t been up there too much the last few years, I will ask some of my readers who are familiar with the city to be kind enough to weigh in with their thoughts or suggestions  :)

I know that only a lucky few were prescient enough to get their tickets for the Olympics long enough in advance- (we were too late) but I think it’s safe to say that it will still be massively exciting to watch them LIVE in our very own time zone and in such a spectacular setting!  I know I, for one, can’t wait!  OMG- I just realized… I’m going to be NY.  I hope I don’t spend my whole week in the hotel room watching the Olympics!  Are there any TV’s in Bergdorf’s??   Anyone have any friends attending that can Tweet to us?!   Shopping/ Figure Skating….Shopping/Downhill…Shopping/Speedskater’s thighs Curling… what’s a girl in NY to do??!  (I think I just burned a few calories worrying)

Anyway, only TWO MORE SLEEPS!  Can’t wait for all those great heart-warming, up close and personal back stories on the athletes- isn’t that the best?

Please Watch This!!  I don’t think it’s just because I love the city so much that it brought tears to my eyes.  Maybe, but I don’t think so.  If you click on the bottom right hand corner square it will come up full screen HD.

Go Vancouver!!!!!!!!! Yay Canucks!!!

Oh, PS.  One shopping tip-  If you love Cowichan sweaters ( and who doesn’t, because even though they’re itchy as hell, we can all have our Marilyn Monroe Moment in them- Vancouver is the place to buy one)

.

…………..Me At Whistler

OK, seriously? I thought the photo of Marilyn was too small and the sweater just lying there looked boring, so I went back in and put “Cowichan sweater on model” and this is what came up.  It brings a whole new life to those wooley animals, doesn’t it?!
