The City of Brights

..

So many posts…so little time

Hence, here we are, almost at the end of summer (say it ain’t so!!)

and me still sitting on a stash of unfinished seasonal posts that never had their moment in the sun

Though most of you could have probably lived without seeing this shot of Gisele,

I did, so now you have to.

Besides, it’s a great pic to leap into a little post about the preponderance of fluorescents this summer, is it not?

.

Did you notice the brights too?

I’m sure they were in all the magazines, but it didn’t really register until I went to Paris.

The flash of fluorescence was everywhere.

My great girlfriend, who lives there, had her nails painted like so;

.

.

I thought it was adorable. (please forgive the poor photo- it wasn’t originally intended to be a hand shot)

Then another friend joined us from Australia- she too had little touches of fluoro in her look; a sweet combo of tiny bright enamels on chains around her neck.

Suddenly I felt terribly beige.

I do have these cute little fluorescent rubber sandals-

but did I bring them to Paris?

of course not!

..

.

.

The Hermes, Paris windows were gorgeous.

Each one a different fluorescent colour, these circles slowly turned causing the sand within to create art in motion.

So clever.

BLUE MOOD

Michael Kors Spring 2011

I‘m in a bit of a blue mood tonight.  Not too much to say, just feeling this colour, so I thought I’d share it with you.

I heard the best line in an old movie last night ;

Man to a Woman ; “Maybe he just wants to be alone. Didn’t you ever just want to be alone?”

Woman ;  “Sure,  but with somebody else!”

I‘m in a red and black frame of mind  as we’re with friends and family in  Las Vegas this weekend.  Although, so far, things aren’t looking too rosy- despite seeing Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE again last night which is always a sensory treat.  As our seats afforded us stellar views of the ridiculously sinuous dancers I vowed to myself (as I always do) that I would stop eating naughty food for awhile.  That lasted until 11:45 this morning when we had PINK’s Hot Dogs delivered to our room.  I daren’t sully this post by adding the photo- although be assured, I did take one!  Oh…the flesh is weak…no where on the planet is this more apparent than in Vegas, I think we’d all agree.  As for my luck,  the night is still young, and the fact that we’re on the 21st floor… well, surely that means something!

However I’ll leave you with much prettier images than me debasing myself in Sin City, although I can’t promise I won’t post again in the wee hours if Lady Luck befriends me.

Julie Hagerty and Albert Brooks in “Lost in America”, possibly the funniest scene ever of someone losing control gambling. (I’m one roll away from her character  BTW :) )

As we rapidly approach mid September,  I’ll finally concede it is indeed time to acknowledge the changing of the seasons.  Summer in Santa Barbara? We hardly knew you.   There are many things about the Fall that I love, don’t get me wrong…although the turning of the trees,  smell of burning leaves, and  distinct ‘crispness’ that creeps in before the real cold arrives are pleasures we don’t truly experience here.   Still, Autumn in Southern California is not without it’s charms.  Our Liquid Amber trees put on a quite a  show, the sunsets never fail to delight and we do grow great pumpkins!   When our children were younger we had the most amazing Halloween parties at our home, even if I do say so myself :)   I miss them so!  BOO hoo!!

.

.

So once again we face the task of putting our summer wardrobes and linens to rest- adieu beautiful turquoise and aqua… it’s time to start thinking in shades of burnt umber and gold…

Oh- I almost forgot- I have positively GOLDEN information to share with you!  My new camera? I got the Leica V-Lux 20 for my birthday…only to be informed by my sister (the Ralph Nader of the family) that I was basically paying a few hundred dollars extra for the little red “Leica” dot. She said the camera was virtually identical to the Panasonic ‘Lumix’.   The old “Toyota in Lexus clothing” switcheroo.  So I bought the Lumix and lo and behold….  (Is that “What a Good Wife Am I” music I hear??!)

Have a Golden Week Everyone!!
