Friday Morsels of Deliciousness

Slim Paley photo(ish)

Over the holidays we were blessed with the company of our dear friends from Paris.  Amongst many of the lovely gifts they brought us were these divine macaroons fresh from Laduree. Be still my heart. My friend snapped these two photos with my camera but I’m going to call it a ‘a team effort’, or rather ‘un effort d’equipe’  (my macaroons, my camera, my house, my rules :) ) This is the very same friend who originally introduced me to my first Leica camera,  So Merci J.M.!

.

.

I’m afraid it’s been a rather hectic week so my original intention to reintroduce ‘Friday Favourites’ on a timely basis (that would be on Fridays, as opposed to at some point over the weekend) has already fallen by the wayside, along with using my Clarisonic every other day and removing my mascara before bed, no matter how late it is.

Whatever. What sort of uptight Square keeps to those sort of lame resolutions anyway?

I play a much wilder game than that.

.

.

I am SOOOO not sweating the small stuff anymore in this Year of Growth, 2011

but just for the sake of one last nod to my OLD Self, may we pretend this Chanel boot was included in my ‘Icicle post’ from last week?

Oh good. I feel so much better now.

So, for my Favouritist Things This Friday I am recommending you take the time to just watch these two short videos;

I know I’ve mentioned The Sartorialist’s website once before and mostly everyone is familiar with it, but I wanted to share this new little documentary being featured on YOUTUBE right now.

It’s cool, he’s cool and what a fricking cool idea ‘The Sartorialist’ originally was. There are so many ‘Sartorialist inspired’ sites in the blogosphere now, but in my opinion, the original remains the best.

BTW,  Do you ever get dressed in the morning and think ‘But what if I run into The Sartorialist?!’  Of course seeing that he is based in NY and I live in a small town in California with a population of 9,600 , I usually feel relatively safe.  The downside is the days I do make the effort  (ahem, vintage tartan skirt…) I never run into him.

Perhaps I will see New York Son on there someday :)

I know those of you that follow me on Facebook and Twitter have already had the pleasure of seeing this fantastically glamourous first look at Tom Ford’s new Women’s collection VIDEO, but for those who haven’t,  the link is just below.  The show features some of the most amazing super models, including Lauren Hutton, Daria Werbowy,  Marissa Berenson, Amber Valetta, Karen Elson (whose great music also accompanies the video) as well as Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Rita Wilson…Well, I could on and on (really Slim?? noooo!)

Just watch and enjoy and let me know what you think!

A few peaks at the show;

OK, I couldn’t wait to hear back from you.

This new ‘ Practice Patience‘ Resolution is bull@#$% too.

I have to weigh in now and say how great is it to see so much glamour packed into just a couple of minutes and still see a fashion industry audience enjoying themselves so much, including God forbid, the models in the show??

I LOVE that!

Oh, and P.S.  Here’s the machine that I was going to use every other night

Ok, time to get that last Halloween post down!   I’m happy to have added a few new scary movies to our viewing list, so thanks for all the great suggestions.  I think we’ve all had our fill of orange & black for awhile though, and I’m sure that many of you might also be a little tired of red & blue after these last few days (whoah- talk about colours repelling! but, let’s not go there)  Instead, we’ll take a nice rich trip to the land of plum & violet hues…and one of my very favourites  that come along this time of year, concord grapes.  Note to growers- What’s up with them still having seeds??  Don’t you realize how much faster and therefore more, we could consume if we didn’t have to bother with an albeit ladylike, possibly even bedazzled spittoon beside our beds?!  Just sayin’…they can do it with green and red grapes…even watermelons

Please don’t hate me for losing some of these credits.  Besides, I’ve noticed some much bigger blogs don’t credit at all.

They’re the super naughty, popular kids in class I guess. The ones that get bad grades and good girls.

Thank you so much to all who responded to the previous post and especially for sharing your own personal experiences as well!

Very funny and I will credit you all in my “Fifty Fahbulous Ways to Bag a Bat” book available on Amazon soon!

In the meantime, I’ve styled my “Next Encounter With The Dark Prince” wardrobe.  It’s a tad chicer than what my husband cobbled together for his performance the other night , but to be fair, he didn’t have the gift of time.

But I SHALL be ready – Vampires seldom ring ahead…

.

I’m having a super tough time deciding between these two looks.

The bottom one is sexier, that goes without saying really,  but the top one will showcase which ever shoe I ultimately choose as well as provide much more neck protection.

And while I await  said Dark Prince sweeping into my life again, I might check in with a few scary old flicks;

The Haunting of Hill House  (1964)

“An evil old house, the kind some people call haunted, is like an undiscovered country waiting to be explored. Hill House had stood for ninety years and might stand for ninety more. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.”

Who could leave a hand or foot hanging off the bed a centimeter,  after seeing this movie the first time?!

.

.

Black Christmas (1974)

with Olivia Hussey and Margo Kidder

Possibly the first “Don’t pick up that phone!” movie?!

.

Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

I know the movie is a little dated (my son thought the pay off wasn’t as scary as he’d expected after all the build up) and quite frankly if I’d been Mia I think I would have murdered the neighbours before my second trimester,  but I never tire of watching John Cassavetes, despite him being such a  $%^* in this movie.

.

The Innocents (1961)

I rarely go to horror films anymore- they got too scary, no make that too dark and morbid for me.  I prefer the “oldies”

You gotta love the guy.

.

.

I read somewhere that this film was good, so I ordered it to watch tonight.

.

I reserve the right to add to my list if something else comes to me later, but I need to get this post up before it’s Thanksgiving.

What are some of your all time FAVOURITES??

.

And if you’re hitting the streets tonight (with your kids that is…or, what the hell, even without kids)

Wishing you lots of fun and bulging pillowcases!

PRADA FALL 2010

.

.

As predicted, by yours truly, the heat wave broke pretty much the moment I arrived in NY.  If you are starting to perceive me as one who takes the weather personally… well, we really are getting to know each other, aren’t we?!  I was bound and determined to stay away from Fall focused posts for a couple of more weeks, but under dark skies and rain, my hand has been forced.  It’s a challenge to get great NY photos in the rain- umbrella reflections in the shop windows are wreaking havoc with my genius.  So I leave you with this classic combination of Red, Black & and a hint of White, which appears to be a strong contender for one of the most winning marriages, or should I say Menages A Trois’ for Fall!.

Enjoy

In one of my three most regrettable fashion faux pas  ever- I sold the black Hermes belt with gold hardware  in the photo above on Ebay  because it only fit on the loosest notch at my hips.  I bought it in the early 90′s and for some reason (Scarlet Fever, perhaps?) I never foresaw wearing a belt at the waist again. It felt matronly to me- akin to wearing Mom Jeans.  I know, right?  Ohhh- it’s making me feverish just thinking about it.  I stay far, far away from EBAY now, but somewhere in Australia there is a very, very happy young woman (Do you want to hear the worst/best part? she wrote me afterwards to say she was so thrilled, then added it was her present to herself for having JUST HAD A BABY )  Hey, Australian Girl- if you are reading this,  I changed my mind!  Call me!

Needless to say, I am no longer allowed near the vicinity of the E-Word.

And no, I will not share the other two faux pas… yet.  You’d lose all respect for me..

Lusting For Exotic Shores…

Firstly, I must begin by saying how much I enjoyed ALL the wonderful suggestions for “The WHITE LIST” on my last post. What a creative, funny and esthetically gifted bunch you are!  I will go through them again (while sipping some white wine) and compile the entire list for another White post in the not too distant future.  After all, It’s not like I’ve had much of an opportunity to tire of white this “summer”  @#$%^&*    OK, I feel better now.

This post is about nothing more than soldiering on in a tropical vein, with the hope that visualization is indeed the first step to realization.  I read that in one of my self-help books and I’m going to start right now;

How I would love to be on some exotic shore in a Liza Bruce caftan, nursing a frosty pineapple beverage, a whopping great satchel of books by my side and a fake tan, of course.  I can almost smell the coconut oil and freshly caught fish wrapped in banana leaves roasting on the beach firepit.  Whoah- my drink umbrella just slipped a little.

“Sound of The Sea”  at The Fat Duck. The course consists of ground crawfish (the sand) seaweed and raw sliced halibut.  It’s presented with a sea worthy foam on a sheet of glass balanced over real sand, and to engage all the senses, an ipod with earphones hidden within a conch shell delivering the gentle sounds of the seaside.  It may sound a little twee, but the combination of all senses being engaged while not being able to converse, really does heighten the taste buds!
