Sawyer and Savasana on Sunday

A bountiful collection  from my garden last Sunday

.

.

I bring you a colourful gathering of ‘fruits’ from my garden and a random little post today.  I have an hour or so  before I commence  my Sunday morning yoga, so I’m just going to go with some stream of consciousness  here;

.

First things first; Went out for dinner on Friday night and you will never believe who was waiting for me in the restaurant.  SAWYER from Lost.  Josh Holloway.  You heard me.  Of course he had his wife and baby with him for “cover” and was doing a pretty convincing job of looking all happy with her and nonchalant about me being there, but that’s how good of an actor he is people.  This is the third spotting of Sawyer in the Santa Barbara area in the last few months (I have my sources) so don’t think this is just a coincidence for one minute.  He is STALKING me.  Good thing my husband was sitting in such a way as to completely and utterly block any possible eye contact between the two of us.  Phew.  Was that LUCKY or what?

…I don’t know why I’ve had this weird crick in my neck for two days though.

Hopefully my yoga this morning will help 🙂

.

.

.

.

.

.

These are just a small sampling of some of the ‘looks’ I luckily managed to avert with the help of my husband’s head and exact placement of his chair. Which he didn’t move . Once.

Then there was the Big Shake Up in the magazine editing world this week with the appointment of Margaret Russell, current editor at Elle Decor,  to Architectural Digest this September.

.

.

Ummm…

Yay!!

woops- was that my outside voice?!   House Beautiful isn’t published by the same company is it?? :0

AND, this coming Tuesday night is the Season Premiere of “Flipping Out”!!  Can’t wait!  I’ve missed Jeff and Jenni,

although the ‘Wrap Up’ episode for last season got almost a little too real for comfort.

I don’t know how much appeal this show will hold for newbies, but for those of us who were in since the beginning…

.

Will there really be no more Ryan? Is Jenni in love again? Is it just me, or is Zola getting slightly attitudinal??

Do you watch??

.

.

~~~~~
.
I picked this because Gisele in the bikini 6 seconds after giving birth  wasn’t quite enough in the last post.
.
OK, so I did my yoga, fell asleep in Savasana, and all is right with the world. Now I feel like I should take back what I said about Architectural Digest.  Sort of.
And Josh Holloway probably isn’t really stalking me, per se, although I swear I think I just saw two giant dimples driving by…
  1. Oh, the incredible beauty of your garden bounty! You put everything
    together so perfectly. Cracking up at your secret meeting with Josh…
    I won’t tell! Hoss had to sit and watch me drooling over Nacho Figueras
    this morning on CBS Sunday Morning. What IS it with Latin men for me?
    Okay, I get it! First Gisele, now Christy….
    I’ll start doing yoga again and lose the 12 I’ve found over the summer.
    I need motivation!
    Have a great week!
  2. Well, looks like someone is obsessed with a certain TV actor…………….nice pics Slim, and lots of them………..
    Your garden bounty shot ranks up in the top 90%- ile even for you, as rapturous as it gets, those mauvey purple roses, which I used to detest as you know, I now worship because of your depictions. Dont know whether to thank you or hate you!
    We have had the most ideal, if not a tad hot, weather here in Napa Valley and on the lake at Tahoe this summer. I remember a few summers long ago being fogged in every day in Bolinas in Marin County and was ready for the straight jacket by August. (or Lithium). Even Maui this summer was cold and windy the week I was there. And it has not stopped raining for days in Mexico where I am about to go for the fall. Topsy turvy to say the least this season, damned El Nino!
    Hope the yoga helped. Om. Namaste.
    • Hi Gaj
      Yes, the yoga definitely helps, but then I wake up the next day- it’s GREY and gloomy AGAIN!! OMG-I’m ready for a straight jacket with a lithium drip!
  3. Your Flowers are truly, truly stunning, almost not real.
    That spread in Sept. H.Beautiful is a credit to you for sure. Love every shot . Thanks for sharing your homes and your gifts ox
  4. Well, I don´t know really what is more beautiful, if that lovely assortment of roses or that guy… mmm… if you had posted only the roses those would have been my favorites, but I can´t lie……
    cariños,
    maria cecilia
  5. ok slim,
    i am sitting here on my sofa in redlands flipping through the new house beautiful and i go immediately to the white layout. i’m reading along sipping my prosecco leftover from last night and i just screamed out loud. did you hear me? cause it was loud. wtf?
    were you not going to tell us? please DO tell!
    btw – your home is stunning.
    see i know something good when i find it!
    ~janet
  6. We have mutual friends… I truly love your blogs! I have 2. Too busy to write right now, but what a pleasure reading yours!
    Keep it up!
    Best to you,
    Erin Ferucci
  7. Didn’t Ryan say he was moving his business to SB? Haven’t you run into him on State Street yet? Maybe your “sources” know where he is. Can’t wait for the new season — been “in it” since the beginning — love that crazy bunch! Love the “bounty” in the basket — beautiful.. and what are the chances you would “see” Josh 3x? he’s definitely stalking you — or maybe it’s because SB is a small town. 🙂
  8. Man was NOT created equally, on the outside that is! OMG! Don’t check to see how many times I stop back by! Your flowers, as always, are beautiful. Now back to Josh… I mean your flowers–you have the most gorgeous flowers, but you are also great at designing them!
    Have a great rest of the weekend.
    Teresa
  9. Can you believe it?
    I have never watched a single episode of Lost. I always wanted to, but some how it never made my list. And I love Bravo TV, but somehow I have skipped Flipping Out too.
    But I am always looking for series I missed to download onto my iPad.
    Makes the workout on my treadmill a breeze!
  10. I love Flipping Out so much I bought my very first QVC purchase—Jeff’s coverlet and matching shams…for only $42! In the previews I noticed Zola napping on the very same coverlet. He uses his own QVC stuff! (well, Zola does…) Anyway, can’t wait!
  11. OK, I guess he is pretty damn cute. But would he appreciate your luscious (no, not that) bounty of fruit and flowers? Doubtful.
  12. Best post I’ve seen on your site so far!! What a treat! (The flowers were pretty too.)
    Re: Kelly above – I drooled over Nacho this morning too. aaahhh…
  13. I am sitting here like a little ninny just grinning from ear to ear. You were so cracking me up, thank you for that. And for the photos of the amazing flowers. Continued best wishes on keeping Josh at bay.
  14. Well if those pictures of Josh do not cure my Molligrubs then nothing will! And cannot wait to see more of the Flipping Out group minus Ryan — what he did was unethical or at the least really sneaky.
  15. Lordy! I have such a thing about dimples you have no idea!
    When I was little the little girl across the street had dimples. I asked my grandmother to teach me how to sew a button on my pillowcase. (she was so cool, she didn’t even ask me why because she thought it was an important skill!)
    I thought I would wake up with dimples!
    No. Red welts all over my face instead!
    I have asked every plastic surgeon I have ever met about dimples. They can’t do them! They are from a twist in the muscle. One proudly stated ,”We can do a cleft in your chin!” Uh. no. not exactly what I want.
    God and God alone can give dimples. Well; God looked at that guy and said……”YOU; you get it ALL!!!!”
    Did you buy all the rest of the “House Beautiful”s at Read ‘n Post??! I bought thirty and left some; they were all gone yesterday…..and they came on Thursday!
    Hope they get some more!
    You were “Whietwashed” I was “Patina” both of which I like a lot!!! So funny! Same town!!
    • Hi Penny
      You bought 30 copies?! Holy shit- you must have more friends than me! 🙂
      Our little magazine shop mustn’t have known what hit them.
      Your home looks very beautiful! I love the colour of your walls.
      • I’m one of those lucky friends of Penny’s and she actually hand-delivered mine
        to the guard at my gate!! Thank you again Penelope!
        XO
        Love your beach house Slim, always have even before you bought it!
  16. You know how good looking guys get ugly when you see them smile and they show teeth… not so
    with “Sawyer”. Love the yellow kayak, love those biceps… just wondering if he has a license for
    those guns – yowza!!!
  17. I don’t know what happened but my computer just froze, yes froze, at exactually the 4th picture of Joshie. OMG. How could it be? Wow. And Wow on your beautiful fresh flowers. I’ve never seen such beautiful colors here in Dallas. A real treat………
  18. Just watched Flipping Out the other day for the 1st time – a marathon of sorts- loved it, can’t wait for the new season. Loved All the pics! Thanks again for brightening my day!
  19. Interesting. Missed the kayak, missed the biceps….shirtless??? Guns??? HUH??? All I saw was dimples. Honestly. I would be a terrible witness!
    And of course your roses and apples!!! Truly gorgeous and beautifully arranged!
    Congratulations on a great blog…….and a wonderful article in MY favorite shelter magazine in America!!!
    And I am hoping you heard me shouting YAY about Margaret Russell at AD!!
    Paige did a great job……I think basically created the shelter magazine in America. (You may be too young to know this……..there weren’t any!) Bud Knapp bought AD and Paige made it into what it became…..and it was really good………and it was really the only one then.
    I just think: time to go. Lovely that Paige resigned! That was an honor she earned; in my opinion!
    Margaret Russell will be FAB!! Just like the new editor at Town and Country !! Steven Drucker!! (from House Beautiful…..he MADE IT SO GREAT!!!) Already a huge difference even on the cover!! T and C is so fab! I could honestly tell from the first cover! A wink and a nod……fun factor! Town and Country best issue ever! (except the one in 1976 I was in! Only kidding……you may not have been born) and, of course, Newell Turner at House Beautiful! Best ever!! (even if we weren’t in it!!) Honestly!
    Shake-ups are good even in great magazines!!!)
  20. Those roses are so picture perfect. I watch Flipping Out. I like Zoila. She is Long Suffering and Patient. Jeff’s narcissistic shenanigans never fail to amuse.
  21. to penelope above.
    i’ve been wondering where you’ve been. since decorno closed shop i don’t get to see you comment anywhere. now i know. your house is amazing too. congratulations.
    ~janet
  22. Have you LOST your mind….? Those are good photographs you picked of HIM…your new boyfriend.
    I am starting Yoga tomorrow…yes becoming a regular LA GAL!
    My new boyfriend is Javier Bardem .
  23. Janet from A Gardner’s Cottage mentioned your blog so I thought I stop by. I’m a faithful Flipping Out watcher. Jeff makes me feel normal.
  24. hi slim,
    i’m back to make a proper comment on this post.
    i don’t know who this sawyer character is, as i don’t watch tv but as you now know, he is not my type! cute but not my type. i apparantly am drawn to aging catholics.
    now your roses are my type. what do you feed them? i keep forgetting to ask you that.
    ~janet
  25. You are being very brave about the Lost hunk (best thing about that daft series), but he is definitely stalking you, so lucky your husband was there to protect you…i have the same problem with Daniel Craig, that man just won’t take no for an answer, on the phone at all hours, pretending to be a life insurance salesman..Bx by the way, fabulous roses, I am pink/mauve/peach with envy
    • Too funny Blighty!
      Re Daniel- I feel your pain
      PS. Love that you use the word “Daft” – my father is the only other person I hear say that; “Daft as a brush” I mean how does that even make sense??! a brush?!
      • Oh “daft as a brush” is a standard saying in these parts, don’t know where it comes from, I have tried to go all modern and say “thick as a bucket” sometimes, I live on the edge..
  26. OOOOOOOOH Baby !!!
    You sure know how to jump-start a girls heart!
    Wow, thank you for that Slim…!
    Now if I could just get my booty to yoga 🙂
    xoxo
  27. First of all, nothing excited me more than seeing Josh Holloway except for the news that Paige Rense is GONE! She should have left YEARS ago but I am sure her death grip on AD was hard to unfurl. Almost like Josh’s eyes on you…..Margaret Russell is a brilliant choice. Let us never see a Mario Buatta house again.
    Secondly. Flipping Out! I truly hope I remembered to DVR before I left on holiday. I cannot miss even ONE episode. Between FO, RHODC, and Rachel Zoe I am assured of losing at least 10 pounds while watching on my treadmill. Thank you Andy Cohen and Bravo.
    Thirdly, since I am away I have yet to see House Beautiful. Slim, if your readers are any indication there may be no copies left when I return! I tried seeing online but no such luck. Maybe if I had had Josh’s laser vision….
  28. Hey there Slim,
    I just read a post about you by Janet over at The Gardeners Cottage…you have such a lovely home I can’t wait to pick up a copy of House Beautiful!
    By the way…..can I borrow your “stalker”? hehehe! You are too funny!
  29. I’m new to your blog and learned of it while reading your House Beautiful interview. I admire a woman who doesn’t take herself so seriously that she would hesitate to slipcover her car in a floral print. Anytime I see the word slipcover it catches my eye, because my daughters and I produce “slipcovers for your walls.” The name of your blog also caught my eye because my husband was a neurosurgeon so of course I know all about the Cushing girls. If you haven’t read it, pick up a copy of David Grafton’s book, The Sisters: The Lives and Times of the Fabulous Cushing Sisters. We met David, who is a very interesting person in his own right, on the American Orient Express traveling from Chicago to DC many years ago. The 3 of us closed the Club Car. Well, they asked us to leave finally!
    And what’s with AD? It used to be a fabulous design magazine with great articles. Now it’s just a lot of advertisements with a few obligatory articles. I hope that changes but ads cost more than subscriptions so don’t think it will.
  30. One look at those splendiforous flowers and I am not feeling so sorry for you anymore without the sunny days and warm temperatures! Are you kidding me? No more wailing on the weather…. if you can grow THAT I have no sympathy!! Truly truly gorgeous and LOVE LOVE LOVE the terrace boxes!
  31. I just found your blog via Janet at the Gardener’s Cottage. It seems you and she share a fine sense of humor, as well as decorating preferences. The bounty of your garden is incredible. You Cali girls are lucky– roses simply LOVE your climate. Those dimples, are sure hard to resist, aren’t they?
    xo,
    Anne
  32. hello slim!
    found you via our friend janet!
    oh my do you have an abundant life… those flowers with the fruit and josh?!! absolutely gorgeous- both of them;) you are a lucky lady indeed!
    your home is STUNNING! may I move in?!!
    joan
    p.s. I am beside myself with excitment to see jeff lewis tongiht! I adore him!!
  33. The departure of Margaret Russell from ED to AD is only the best news but I can’t help but wonder who could fill her shoes at ED now. PR was a gorgon and should have been tossed out years ago of course, like about 15 years ago! (I stopped even looking at that mag about 10 years ago). MR has a huge task in front of her, trying to re-invent AD into something relevant, current, exciting and above all creative, like trying to breathe life back into a long dead cadaver.
  34. Myself, I’m partial to rob pattinson. He really IS stalking me. I had to throw him out of bed before my husband came home!!!!!
    Loved your hb spread. Gorgeous.
    Joni
  35. I was thrilled to discover as well as so many other readers your home featured in House Beautiful. Congratulations. It is a truly beautiful piece and it was a treat to get to know you a bit more. I love your taste, as always. =) And the slipcover car seats – love it!
Would love to hear from you!
