A fiery horizon line from my bedroom window.
Carpinteria, CA
It’s the last day of January, less than 24 hours before the Super Bowl in the U.S. (and Downton Abbey 🙂 ) I’m watching the hockey game (go Kings!) at home in Santa Barbara, where the winter sunsets have been SO extraordinary on any given afternoon that calls and texts between friends are exchanged minute to minute as though we’re monitoring the launch of the space shuttle. Look now, no, look NOW! Check out the mountains-they’re totally violet! No seriously, it’s even better at the beach…

Other than from my window, I’ve been enjoying the show from multiple locations simultaneously via Instagram

With fully disclosed bias, I maintain Santa Barbara is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth to live.
But enough with padding the following blow with pretty pictures.
It’s time for another (final) change to accompany the now not so ‘new’ look of my blog.
I know, I know– but I promise it’s worth it!
I’m switching my e-mail alert subscription service from WordPress to MailChimp.
Settle down. I realise it’s pretty exciting stuff.
Not only will this allow me to create more attractive e-mail alerts, but it will also give me (and you) much more control over who receives emails, and for what. It also means I can finally bring back my short lived ‘Daily Paleys’
In order to accomplish this transition as smoothly as possible, I’m going to need a little bit of your help.
I know it’s the weekend and all, but I promise you will barely have to lift a finger.
The majority of you, my lovely, loyal readers, originally subscribed to Slim Paley using your e-mail addresses. If you did, then you’re already (I’m told) successfully moved over to my new Mailchimp service.
Translation: YOU don’t have to do anything!
However some of you WordPress users subscribed through your WordPress accounts. If that’s you, then all you have to do is put your e-mail address into the box, check the “Regular Posts” box, and you’ll be added to my new list.
Here’s the link:

Yay! We love safety in numbers.

Especially when shoe shopping. (Dior couture this week)
Now, just one more thing to talk about.
One of the biggest changes in my revamped format was the addition of the ‘Daily Paley’. I received a lot of positive feedback, but one thing I heard was that some of you weren’t crazy about the idea of receiving an e-mail daily. That was never my intention, but the new design quickly went a bit haywire.
Well, “a bit” may be an understatement. It just didn’t work.
Other readers couldn’t seem to find the ‘Dailys’ at all.
Some, God bless you, were even under the wild assumption that when I said “Daily” I actually meant “Daily” 😉 You guys!! (though I did have the very best of intentions when I named them)
Anyway, this is where Mailchimp, my simian knight in shining armour comes to the rescue.
If you DO WANT to receive an e-mail alert when I post Daily Paleys, just check the “Daily Paley” box (in addition to the “Regular Posts” box). If you check the “Regular Posts” box, you’ll continue to receive alerts only when I put up the regular posts.

Gosh, I hope all this wasn’t too confusing. It’s a delicate balance this blogging, even after 5 years (!)
Meanwhile, we’ve entered the cocktail hour since I started writing this post.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, the sunsets, the Super Bowl and of course, Downton Abbey.
I look forward to staying connected with you!
Please feel free to leave any questions you might have in my comment section.

Glad that you are up and running and all set for 2015!! This is going to be a kick-butt year!! Congratulations and many thank-you’s for the past 5 years of “Slim” –xoxo Mary
I’m native California but a true Texan now. Love my home state of Ca. and of course love glorious SB. I get to visit relatives! I truly enjoy your blogs and posts. Thank you for the beauty and style. You’re a peach.
spectacular skies!!
You’re worth the wait and “all the trouble”. You do a wonderful job with your postings ALL the time. Thank you for all your efforts and kick in my pants creative juices.
We’ve been having amazing sunsets here too…I posted on Instagram the sun from yesterday’s walk along Dallas Road…I hope I will keep getting your posts as I do receive them via email.
Love those sunsets! We’ve been getting some technicolor ones too up here, but S.B. may have us beat. I’m glad you found the Mail Chimp. I’ve heard other bloggers like it too. I don’t know if I signed up before, but I’m going to be on the SAFE SIDE and yes I do want Daily too when it happens! 😀
Good luck with all this! Kim
Once again, I’m grinning all through your blog. You even made the “way to get mail” funny!!
I just spent a week in SB over Christmas…..lovely and beautiful but not one of those glorious subsets…:(
Its not letting me sign on and I love your blog and artful eye.
Audrey
I certainly do want to continue receiving your posts as I have for the past five years. Your photography is beautiful and so inspiring. I love it.
We, TOO, are sunset kinda folk!! The skies have been a kaleidoscope of color and we’ve been posting on FB, etc. Oh, dear, IS THIS what they mean by “sunset years??” Oh, well…looking so forward to ALL your posts!! franki
glad you like my sunset pic! xx
I’m loving 2015 Slim Paley. I detect a bit of maturity and possibly even more fun and wit!
Dear Slim, I always know that I will see gorgeous photography anytime I come to your site and I am never disappointed! Thank you for all of the beauty you bring!

I’m still loving the blog, Slim. Thank you for all your efforts and keep up the good work! xo
I use Mail chimp too. It’s pretty great and gives stats for # of opens etc. I’m pretty sure I’ll be transferred over since I receive notice through my email not wordpress. Great post Slim. The sunsets are gorgeous!!
My folks lived in San Diego right by the water for nearly 25 years before my Dad passed away. I love that they used to go “for coffee” every night at a take out joint near the pier in Pacific Beach just to watch “the show” every evening…especially at this time of year. This brought back happy memories, thank you…
And What What? Super Something? I don’t know about you but I spent this afternoon in France with friends over a four hour lunch. :à

Thank You & wishing you a beautiful 2015!
um, my head hurts…. I think I am in category A, whew.
Incredible sunsets, love the the texture and the trees, fabulous!
go hawks!
I love those sequin High Heeled Boots
And the Bloody Mary skies.
Hi Slim,
Don’t you love the sunsets in SoCal lately. Not that Santa Barbara isn’t the most beautiful spot (our youngest son went to UCSB) but even behind the Orange curtain (OC) the sky has had me want to stop the car and take pictures in the evenings.
I’m all signed up for the new email system. Back to Superbowl, Go Hawks!
Karen
I can never get enough beautiful sunsets 🙂
I am just about to do that just now, Slim!…………………:)
I love reading your posts and really enjoyed the sunset’s you shared- just beautiful! Best of luck with all of the platform changes. Just finished so many on our blog, Segreto Secrets, and, though tough, find it so worth it in the end!

Segreto Finishes
such gorgeous skies (and cute pups and chimps too!)
I’m not sure how I was as signed up, but did it with the chimp, just to ensure I get your posts and daily stuff.
Fabulous skies! There’s no place like home:)
Simply gorgeous skies in Santa Barbara, Slim! As a fellow California blogger, I’m glad I caught this post. My feeds/subscriber lists have been a tangle since I moved my blog to wordpress. I use Mail Chimp for my online boutique and it’s super easy. I’m considering moving my blog lists over as well. Hope it’s going smoothly for you!

The pictures of sunsets are beautiful! Love it!

Gorgeous sunsets! And I’m going to need a cocktail now after reading about the whole website/email switcheroo process. Kudos to you for your bravery. It’s all I can do to remember how to work WordPress if I go more than a week without posting. xo, N.
Hi Slim, I just went looking for you and the latest Post I have is this one. I wasn’t sure wether to send you a note on Pinterest or here, so here it is. I tried to sign up for “daily Slim”, but it says I am already signed up with that email. Hmmmm….I am sure there must be something I am missing? Besides your wonderful Posts that is. Maybe you are just taking a hiatus? If so, my apologies! I miss you! Please let me know what I can do if you have a minute. Thank you so much and I hope you are doing well! Beautiful sunsets BTW. Thank you!
Hi Slim,
I haven’t received any of your regular postings since the first of the year. I checked MailChimp and they have my correct information. Have you stopped writing? Horrors!! I would also like an alert for your Daily PALEY. I miss you. Smiles, Ruth Roberts
Hi Ruth!
Thank you for checking in and inquiring. A combination of email alert issues and ‘server’ snafus (“Go Daddy” not to name names) recently, as well as real life just being more hectic than usual has resulted in my absence from Slim Paley. I really miss writing my posts and hope to be back up and at it again very soon. In the meantime, I’ve been somewhat more ‘social’ on Instagram, if you have an account there. I find it a simple, fun and instant way to share and stay connected.
Smiles and happy weekend back to you!
xx SP
I feel like the cha cha changes have left me out in the cold and I miss the Slim posts! Like you took that hike and then told your readers to take a hike! I guess I will have to bite the bullet and do that Instagram thing…which I don’t want to do because it will be one more way to take me away from my newly aquired mindful existence. HAHA!
These sun set photos are absolutely stunning. I love the colors and hues of sun sets. Great post! I enjoyed reading it thoroughly!
