Instagram Friday

Good Friday to you all. It’s very dark and raining heavily in Santa Barbara. Practically pea soup as I look out my window. Sunset was at 4:38pm yesterday-yuk ( I have a Sunrise/Sunset App.).I snapped this Instagram photo of the granite grey sea and sky yesterday morning. It made one want to just stay in bed with a frothy hot drink and a great book while a hearty stew simmered on the stove. I wish I could say I did just that, but I dihn’t.

77e9008038f711e2a88722000a1f90d0_7The sky the night before was a good predictor of what was coming. I’m having fun with my Instagram App.  Are you using it? Are you following moi? This is with no filters, just plain.

db1f8d0a3b1711e292a022000a1faf61_7This morning there was a brief lull in the rain so I took a walk through the garden. Look at how gorgeous the trunk of the Cork Oaks get when they’re soaked through.  I think these are such under-rated, beautiful trees.  I wonder if Oprah has any on her property 🙂

825649843b2111e292eb22000a1fbd89_7-1And can you believe it’s this time of year again?!  The house is filled with the scent of drying orange slices for the Christmas tree.

It’s definitely this kind of day today. I’m staying in, staying dry & cozy and hopefully get some writing done.

Cocktail hour might even commence before 5. The weather made me do it.

PS. I took the above photo with the “Cinemagram” App.-it’s also fun, check it out.

Hey wait- did that just technically make this a “Friday Favourites” post?!!

Wishing you a wonder-filled weekend.

  1. OK, I’m inspired. I just received my own camera for taking photos for my new blog. I just know how to shoot at “auto,” but I consider that a beginning. Went to Youtube for some tutorials and got completely overwhelmed. It was then that my husband said, just take baby steps and start at the beginning. So now I’m going to join “Instagram” and “Follow” you and do what ever you say! Love seeing your photos. I also love that poring bath water. How long have you been a photographer? Do you actually understand the settings?

    • Thank you S! I am still very much in the learning process with photography, especially as I have a new camera, but I’ve always loved taking/making “pictures”- Whether it’s with crayons, paint or a camera. Unfortunately I rarely pick up a paint-brush these days (years :()

  2. Hey; it’s raining here too. “The Weather made me do it”… why didn’t I think of that!? Cheers, Slim! <3

  3. Oh, I would so want to see if Oprah, indeed, also had a cork oak on her property. I suppose that would get me arrested, for trespassing. All right, never mind, scratch that thought. Any way to take a picture over the hedgerow? 🙂

  4. Slimmy–we both live under the same sky, but why does yours look so much better? I should look up more. Another terrific FRIDAY post. xo

  5. The moods of sky, the quirks of sea, The sky with its emotions; how the sensitive sea reflects. I’ll have a hot toddy now.

  6. Slim I actually love the occasional cool rainy day; if I can stay in and read with candles lit and something yummy to drink!

2012 Artists Series and Giveaway from The House of Edward!

  7. I want to dry oranges and do….something with them! I recall you have given us instructions before – but which lovely holiday post? bd

    • Hey Bo!
Here is the link to the original post I did about drying the oranges (back in December 2009!)
and I did get the Excaliber as a gift under, er, beside the tree that year. It’s great, but I’m sure there are smaller, quieter ones that have come out since 2009. The Excaliber is very big, so storage is a consideration.
      Dry On Sister!

  8. What is the name of the sunrise/sunset app.? I live in Hawaii and the sunrise/sunset times don’t vary by much but still
would like to have that app. aloha, Cindy N

  9. Slim,
I’d give anything for a “pea soup” day around here – I live in the land of 83 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, Tucson, Arizona! I’m trying to get in the mood for decorating…your orange drying project looks fun – what do you do with them after they are dry? Hang them on your tree? I need some instagram lessons from the 14 year old Instagram-addict that lives in our house! Love you and your blog!

  10. I’m just around the bend from your neighborhood so I really appreciate our local color
even when it’s a monochromatic gray.
So amazing to see the water pouring next to the fire!
Couldn’t get the Cinemagram App to come up… where is it hiding?
Thanks for lighting up the day

  11. Perfect timing. Seeing Instagramming everywhere. I’m almost afraid to ask because I will probably love it, but what exactly is Instagram? All the cool kids are doing it, but I’ve never looked into it. I’ve embraced Facebook. I Twitter {Tweet?}. I Pin, and of course I love BLOGS, : ) and think I might like Instagram, but I’m not sure exactly what it is, or how to do it? Do you take photos with the App? Or is it an editing tool? Is it an online listing like Pinterest? Do you “follow” people like you do on Twitter/Pinterest?

    Anyone? Anyone? : )

    • You take photos with your iPhone and then manipulate or edit them in Instagram. They have many different looks that you can apply to each photo. You can follow people, ( just followed Slim) and you can see the photos that the people that you follow post.

  12. it is beyond boiling here.

    Maybe 35 degrees.

    Love the moving photo.

I luff instagram, so much faster than blogging and no mean troll like comments.

Hope to see you maybe next year.

    love Me x

  13. I’m supposed to give my family ideas of what Santa could leave in my stocking. Would it be wrong for me to scratch off the Clairsonic and instead suggest a dehydrator? I totally forgot that I wanted one of those! Thanks Slim.
    XO LP

  14. I will be in santa barbara next weekend…bring it on! i love being near the sea during a winter storm…wait…i just love being near the sea! …the heavenly aroma of those oranges IS exciting my olfactory cells…if only some computer geek could create a scratch and sniff feature…..ooh, then we could also breathe in the luscious scent of your roses! once again, a visual feast for the eyes…and a touch of your wry humor! makes my day just that much better…

  15. I wish we could have cork oaks here in the NE. The bark is extraordinary, love the winter interest it provides. And you can’t beat winter seascapes!! I was there yesterday, 25 degrees but beautiful and sunny. As always a beautiful post Slim.

    • lol. It’s really easy! Just get the Cinemagram app. and it walks you through the steps-
you too can be a Techno-Queen!

Would love to hear from you!
