I‘m not going to say much, other than everyone has to go see “Brooklyn” !
It’s such a lovely movie.
The cast is fantastic across the board, but special mention must go to Sairse Ronan who positively shines in the lead role.
And if you have a mum, who grew up in Ireland in the 50’s (like mine) for goodness sake take her with you!!
You’ll both be in for a treat.
PS. This “Daily Paley” is going out with an email alert because I don’t want anyone to miss it, or the movie! 😉

Saw it, loved it! I’m telling everyone to go see it, too.
On my list, and the book is too!
Recommandé par mon fils aussi!
As MON fils says : “He knows what’s up”!
So glad you are spreading the word….Loved , loved the movie. It was my turn to pick the movie I wasn’t sure if my husband would enjoy “Brooklyn”….well after it was over and they were running the credits he turned to me and
said “that was just a wonderful movie”……. Women…..take your husbands.
I even loved how there were NO credits until the very end of the film. Did you notice that?
Thank you, Slim. It looks sweet and sentimental – just like something I need right now, and kind of a nice movie to see this time of year.
I loved reading Brooklyn and was thrilled to see it yesterday. I just loved the characters and don’t forget the wonderful Julie Waters and Jim Broadbent as well as all the other. Supporting characters. Jus was just perfect.
Yes a totally lovely movie. Amazing cast.
xo
Me Too!! LOOOOOOOVED “Brooklyn”. Took myself to a 11:15 a.m. show when it first opened in NYC, expecting I could just walk in,….and found a line out the door…
The nuances of the acting, the way the story unfolds so gently, it is a delicious movie…and I don’t remember feeling the same way about the book.
I live in a Brooklyn neighborhood very much like the one in the film…so it is especially fun to watch.
Thanks for giving it a boost…everyone I know loved it so much they’ve seen it more than once.
I just finished the book. I’m looking forward to the movie.
My mom came from Ireland all by herself not knowing a soul. A distant cousin (priest) sponsored her. I always dismissed her loneliness when she use to tell me how lonely
she was. “Brooklyn” really helped me understand my mom’s journey.
Thank you Slim…. I’m on it!
It was WONDERFUL!! Still thinking about this beautiful movie. Few and far between!
Such a wonderful movie at the holiday’s. I am a third generation Irish gal and it reminds me how lucky I am that my family was willing to risk everything to come to the US. I love Ireland and have been fortunate to visit many times.
I’ll put it on my list, thanks for the recommendation!
I don’t receive your daily Paley even though I have signed up. What is to be done about this sad situation? Appreciate any help you can give me. A faithful reader….Ruth Roberts Wasser, Los Angeles
Hi Ruth. It’s not you, it’s ME. I purchased Mail Chimp service almost a year ago and initially had issues that I didn’t have time to address (and, in fact, as I’ve been in home construction for so long, STILL have not had time to address) so I ‘unplugged’ the Mail Chimp- and it caused a fair amount of havoc with the subscriptions. My best suggestion is to unsubscribe and then resubscribe and see if that works?
Thank you for your loyalty and readership all these years!! xx SP
Looks good – I hope it comes to Australia soon!
movie not in my location yet
Already No. 1 on my list. My grandparents were Irish. Have a wonderful December. I can imagine that your decorating is in full swing. xoxo Mary
Thank you for the recommendation, I have heard great things about this film!!

Loved it! And thought of you when I was watching….
🙂
On my list. I’ll have to see it with girlfriends because I could never drag my husband to see it!
Thank you so much! Slim! My husband will love it too! I’m in New York City and I adored this movie!!! And so will my husband! We will see it together in Santa Barbara! Fabulous movie!!!
I have not seen it. I am going to bug my husband in to taking me to it because of you! 🙂
Thank you for the suggestion. I went with my Irish half and he enjoyed it too. There were positive comments afterwards from the men there. An excellent choice to get away from watching the news more than once a day and searching Netflex for a film we have not seen.
So my Mom is 65, and born, from an Irish mother, in Brooklyn. I reserved a date to see it with her but my sister brought home a screener and she watched it with my Dad. Just yesterday he leaned over to kiss “his Irish Brooklyn girl” I still can’t wait to see it, but I’m glad they experienced it together
