“The world as burnt fruit-When Empires feuded for populations and plantations, buried in Colonial and Ancient currency, a Gharial appeared from an inky melon hot with blossom sprang forth to swell the world not yet whole as burnt fruit”
by artist Rina Banerjee, at Musee Guimet, Paris

Riiight-What she said.
Truthfully, I just saw it and it reminded me of a pomegranate.

I had to go really tight on my pommy photo because it sort of looked like a crime scene.
I forgot to remove the knife 🙂

Most readers from Across The Pond are familiar with Yotam Ottolenghi and his restaurants, but the Israel born, London based chef is not that well known here in the U.S. This gorgeous collection of 120 vegetarian recipes is sure to change that in short order. Would make a great little Christmas gift.

Slim, back with a vengeance!
Saw a reference to that London chef and his new cookbook on the Slow Love Life blog (in the comments I believe) just in the last couple of days! Interesting take on everyday food.
Love your photos…..especially of that burnt fruit installation piece. You are amazing. Feel better soon, my dear!
This is one of my favorite of your Christmas posts – so many great ideas and recipes! I’m going to have to go back and read our comments because it sounds like the sore throat remedies actually helped you and I’m on Day 5 of Le Grip.
sticky keyboard – Read YOUR comments! haha
How delightful to see my sparkling cranberries here. Thanks Slim! xo
Festive and fruity! I love it. Hope you are feeling more festive soon, Slim.
Pomegranate liqueur in Prosecco and in gorgeous Santa Barbara with its fabulous December sunsets sounds like a sore throat cure. I drink tons of Echinacea tea with honey and lemon, plus fresh wheat grass shots from Whole Foods or Jamba Juice. Or make a blender drink with all the seeds from one pomegranate, organic OJ, and green based protein powder in the blender.
All best for a quick cure. Thank you for the very beautiful post.
Love this post! Going to try some of these great ideas. Thank you, Slim!
Yum – love Prosecco (from TJ’s) and love Pama. Never thought of the two together (duh, kinda like chocolate and peanut butter).
Try the chèvre with cranberries and cinnamon at Costco. Divine… I’m taking it to a girl’s cocktail thing tomorrow.
The pomegranate liqueur in prosecco is our “house” cocktail. It’s festive for many different occasions! My sister bought the first bottle when she couldn’t find creme de cassis for kir royale. She left it with us, saying she hoped we’d be able to use it. I don’t remember how many bottles there have been since then….Thanks for sharing all these ideas. I’ll have to make some cranberry sauce to put on my brie hors d’oeuvres for Christmas day. Love that idea! I hope you’re feeling much better.
Simply beauty-full.
Where can I get (oh please don’t let it be Germany – like your silk ribbon) outdoors balls (any color) to hang from the tree? LOVE – FABU – PERFECT!
Cheers!
In ancient Greek mythology the pomegranate was considered the ‘fruit of the dead’. Here’s why: Persephone was kidnapped by Hades and taken off to live in the underworld as his wife. Her mother, Demeter (goddess of the Harvest), went into mourning for her lost daughter and thus all green things ceased to grow. Zeus, the highest ranking of the Greek gods, could not allow the Earth to die, so he commanded Hades to return Persephone. It was the rule of the Fates that anyone who consumed food or drink in the Underworld was doomed to spend eternity there. Persephone had no food, but Hades tricked her into eating six pomegranate seeds while she was still his prisoner and so, because of this, she was condemned to spend six months in the Underworld every year. During these six months, when Persephone is sitting on the throne of the Underworld next to her husband Hades, her mother Demeter mourns and no longer gives fertility to the earth. This became an ancient Greek explanation for the seasons.
The fruit also figures in Judaic history as well. The scouts brought Moses the fruit to show how fertile the land of Israel was, and some scholars believe the pomegranate was the Garden of Eden’s ‘forbidden fruit’.
Another fab post, Slim.
Delectable! I didn’t know there was a Pomegranate liquor. Where the hell have I been? Glad you’ve rebounded too:)
exactly what I was thinking. Loved the photo of the berries n the white dish it looks like an old still life painting
Adore pomegranates, was taught to open them under water, to minimize the red ‘death’ spray.
Fill large bowl with water, submerge fruit, carefully slice underwater, seeds will sink, white stuff floats, strain and viola!
Hope you are feeling better. Just love the Slim Days of Christmas Posts!
Brill, yummy blog. xo
Thanks for all the inspiration. I plan on trying a few recipes. Happy you are feeling better.
Best…Victoria
We just had Raspberry Chocolate Truffle Martinis at “The Jefferson Hotel”…they are now on our Christmas menu!!! franki

Berry berry stunning indeed!
crack myself up.
luscious! what a rich post. feel better!
All your gorgeous berry images coincided nicely with eating my husband’s freshly baked linzer torte a few minutes ago. He uses both raspberry jam and fresh raspberries in his torte and it’s very scrumptious.
So glad your back. Please continue to feel better.
All the best,
Ruth
Isn’t it amazing how sometimes the simpler things from nature are the prettiest?
Love all the subtle shades of red.
“hot with blossom….”
I love pomegranates.
So happy you are feeling better Slim!
I’m having raspberries on top of my pavlovas and pureeing them for the baby with lychees. So festive x PS sent you a card hope it arrives x
I am officially losing my mind because I could have sworn that I responded yesterday but two thoughts for fighting off that unhappy kind of tickle: the high road) fresh ginger tea with honey, lemon and a bit of cayenne pepper or the low road) vodka with salt taken before bedtime. 🙂
CSI Slim (without the knife!) – now there’s a new reality show!
It won’t be long now.
Happy Holidays!
Love the chevre and dried cranberries on pumpernickel toasts. Thanks so much for all the inspiration, Slim! xoxo
S.P. – After all of these remedies are tested (by you, the sicky) will you rate them from just tasty to most effective? Looking forward to the images you attach if you make this a post…Cheers!

i’ve just learned from Mimi Kirk (google her! named “sexiest vegetarian over 50”) from her amazing book: LIVE RAW, that the way to extract the seeds from a pom — VERY easily — is under water! it works like a charm…..
Fabulous blog! I, too, have the creepy chest cold thing. Makes you wonder if all the hand sanitizing thing works or not!!! Your photos and words are true inspiration! My Christmas morning breakfast will be memorable thanks to you! Brava! More…more! Hope you are well for Christmas.
