That’s Amore!

Well, come on!

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a fashion post, right?

And perhaps because I’ve just returned from Italy, the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan yesterday had me positively swooning!

So much colour, detail, FUN!!

All those lovely gelato colours…

For you, Bella,

A little music to accompany your stroll through the streets of Italy

“The inspiration for the collection ees all the toureeests. We discover why all this kind of people come from outside of Italy to here…becus for us, eet ees normal to watch a coliseum, we are bohrn eere, but for the rest of the world, ees unique”

Stephano Gabbana (see the rest of the clip and a little glimpse of the show in the link at end of post)

Coconut…one of my personal favourites.

We loved discovering all the hidden gardens in Florence and Rome

And for a girl shopping for floor tiles right now, I was in inspiration heaven in Florence and Rome  🙂

Yes, that’s a big orange tassel on my bag (that I bought in the hotel gift shop when BRITISH AIRWAYS lost my luggage)

Going to a wedding…

Look at the size of the people next to those columns.  No cranes back in the day People.  HOW????

my Instagram

“The cathedral was begun at the end of the 13th century by Arnolfo di Cambio, and the dome, which dominates the exterior, was added in the 15th century on a design of Filippo Brunelleschi. A statue to each of these important architects can be found outside to the right of the cathedral, both admiring their work for the rest of eternity. Can you imagine it took two centuries for the cathedral to be deemed finished?” via

So, I guess in some ways, construction is still the same as it ever was….*

“The new collection was a love letter to postwar Italy”   Vogue

What can I say about this ??

The Pantheon dome.  Incredible light, even more incredible architecture. More than 1,800 years old.

The coliseum.  Mind bending in both a good and bad way.

A very hot and windy day to visit…and lest you’re thinking ‘Oh there’s Slim wearing her husband’s pyjamas in public again”

Still one of my favourite looks of all time, which I won’t be ‘retiring’ (see what I did there?) anytime soon  ( See Slumber in the Streets )

The models took selfies with their embellished iPhones – a cute idea.  Why not?!

I mean if this was me, were me, if I were her, I’d be selfie-ing my face off 24/7!!

and that’s Amore folks!

A very short video with interview & clips from the show

  1. That’s amore, indeed. A vibrant, colorful Italy. Especially love the tile, and the reminder that the Pantheon is nothing less than miraculous. Thanks Slim, delightful as always…

  2. …were the gelato images a subliminal message?….. I have nothing, nothing I say, in the freezer that could even come close…………it is so very, very sad, that I can never, ever, wear any of those frocks without looking like I shopped at the thrift store and headed to Michael’s with my glue gun or raided my great, great, grandmothers closet in Boca for that matter……….where or where is that gelato……my fate is in that last picture, (the elderly couple should have worn each other shoes)

  3. Fab indeed! The line reminds me of some of my clothing from the early 60’s! THe embellished purses were a hot item back in those days and I saved up all my allowances for awhile to buy one for my Mother—it was so like these very ones!!!
First pic ever of the hubby…almost positive…have been a fan of him forever back to SNL early days!!! Lucky you to have Italy, D&G, gelatto and Hubs!!! Weather in mid seventies here in Idaho today–perfect…just like this post!!

  4. Wow!! That gelato, were you sampling all of the flavors? I don’t think I could walk by a display like that and keep my diet/composure. I wonder what it would feel like growing up in Italy surrounded by such historical presence in daily life. As a kid my views were of malls, movie theaters and new construction.

  5. That was really fun Slim….. thank you! My husband and I had an exciting romp through Italy this time last year. Ahhhh…Florence! LP

  6. Now I want a new dress, a Dean Martin album and some gelato! Very nice to see your hubs, too. He’s looking quite slim. Anchorage, Alaska (voted worst dressed in all of the U.S.) but I love fashion, I do!

  7. If you’re old enough, which I am, I’ve seen this look before….whimsy and fun…
Love the magnolia? Flower on the p.j. type top…I’m happy with the colors too.

  8. Take me back to Sorrento….Bright fun colors, amazing architecture, beautiful tile, mouth watering gelatos, beautiful ” jammies”. Thanks for the “trip” it was lovely!!

  9. Gorgeous…and now you have me craving gelato at not even 8am..not a good thing! The fashions, beauty and inspiration are off the charts…..simply there is nothing like La Dolce Vita!!! Enjoy your day:)

  10. Oh why oh why did Dolce and Gabbana have to say this in an interview.
“We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one … No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: Life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed,” they said, according to English translations.

“You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be,” Dolce added. “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”

I can never be a fan of their work again SP. Sorry to rain on your parade. I will gladly take the gelato and the visit to the Colisseum however!

  11. I woke early this morning feeling the weight of the world upon me……..opened your post and feel like a wonderful cloud uplifting me. Seeing the fashions, Italy sights, you and hubby, and the older couple making me laugh. Thank you for making the world a better place.

  12. Slim what a stunning collection, love the caftans and shifts!! Very me when I want to be my artistic (and not classic) self! The art, the love of Italy never leaves me!!

  13. Oh my gosh, I’m not a print person or a wild color person, or a Dolce & Gabbana person, but I love what you’ve shown us here. And how observant of you to liken it to Italian Gelato (I am a gelato person)! It’s all so lovely and loungy like your PJ’s. And who doesn’t love Italia!? Beautiful post!!

    Celia from After Orange County

  14. I wondered what kind of shoes you wore with that outfit when you went to that wedding. Now, I know! 🙂

  15. I love every post you write. I especially loved seeing your cute hubby in the photo. He’s so talented and smart – and funny – just like you. Thanks for all the effort you put into entertaining us all!

  16. Loved everything about this!! Wonderful mix of Florence, the show, and gelato which is a must every day one is in Italy. The music just made me wistful for another trip there! By the way you look beautiful in men’s pajamas…If I only could! Kim

  17. WOW! The clothes, the colors, the music, the architecture, the pajamas! {Writing in mine as we speak. Alas, not a D&G pair.} Slim, you’re so descriptive and always post the best stories and photos. It’s such a wonderful treat to visit your happy blog.

  18. Oh please write about Italy. We are going next summer and my husband is planning the trip
and I would love to have some wonderful information!!!!

  19. Ciao Bella!

I’m on the phone right now with my travel pro; planning our return t Italia! Thank you Slim.

  20. The best gelato in the world can be found in Italy. The best food in the world can be found in Italy. ( I have no idea if this is true or not – my Italian husband thinks so but what the heck? Great post. Thank you.

  21. Bellissima!!!! Love D&G. You are so lucky to have been there. I’m jealous!! Thank you for your fashion post.

  22. Fabulous post as always, I keep telling my Hubby I’ll be the first to buy your book once it hits the shelves???? PS you two just keep getting younger looking, no fair!

Would love to hear from you!
