Seven Days ’til Christmas!

Sun Valley, Idaho

I‘m late, aargh, I’m so late with this, but my dear friend Patty Smyth has a brand new Christmas album out and it is GREAT!!

I wanted to do a whole thaing, and then add something else, and look for this particular photo (which I couldn’t find) and all of a sudden it dawned on me that there were only seven flipping days left until Christmas.

So…better late than never, as I’ve been known to say more than once, I highly recommend you check Patty’s album out on iTunes.

Yes, we’ve been friends for a very long time (though I don’t quite date back to her “Scandal” days, I lived in London then) but I’m not plugging Patty’s album just because I love her.

I mean, I absolutely DO love her, but I’m telling you because I think you’ll really love it too.  Some tracks are old Christmas favourites, while others, Patty wrote herself- like this one;

“Come On December”

“The song was written with the memories of my childhood Christmas in mind, the excitement of Christmas coming and to remember what the real gifts are. Trying to remember all our blessings and forget stressing about shopping for shit no one needs. Ha!”    Patty Smyth.

That’s my Patty!

Looking out to the porch, Sun Valley.

Some of my most favourite Patty memories are from the Holiday Season spent in Sun Valley.

That girl, amongst her many other talents (like making everyone laugh like hell) would cook the meanest chilli for our annual ice hockey tournaments.

Oh how I miss those Olden Days…when we were all together, so many dear friends, ruddy cheeked children, hot chocolate and chilli on the stove.

And, best of all, we still had some degree of control over our progeny’s lives 🙂

Damn, life whips by.

Here’s Patty and me, at the wedding of our friend, years ago.

Side note- in scrolling through my photos tonight I realise that 1) Patty and I need to take more photos together and 2) when we have taken photos or video, good hair & make-up tends to be VERY scarce (that’s an understatement) and jammies factor heavily (not a bad thing )

A New Year’s resolution?? Absolutely. I need to be taking more photos with all my friends in 2016.

Meanwhile, you heard me- only 7 more days until Christmas folks…

I’m not even CLOSE to being ready (what else is new??) but I’m determined to take it all in stride and just chill.

On that note,

I’ll share one more beautiful song (another original) from Patty’s new album  (available on iTunes !!)

I hope you’ll enjoy her album as much as we are.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Share the love and Holiday Spirit in all ways possible… and remember…the Joy is most often in the littlest of moments.

Merry Christmas and thank you for all the interesting blogs this year and great photography. Linda from Idaho

  2. A great voice and a wonderful friend to have!! Winter hasn’t come here really, not snow anyway!
Happy Holidays to you and yours Slim!!

  3. Merry Christmas from the South …..thank you for all the blogs and beautiful photography you shared thru your travels. Hope you and the family have the merriest. My children and grandchildren come today and we are going to the Holiday Sing-Along at our Symphony Center in Nashville…should be fun….then it’s come back to my home for a southern brunch with some country ham/biscuits etc. Thank you Jesus for the gift of being born in America and I do not want to forget the reason for the Season.

  4. Chill, ha ha ha, that is a good one Slim! Now that I think of it, I guess I have experienced ‘chill’ in my life, but apparently not the type that you are talking about. The best example of chill or a chilling moment in my life would be…., That ‘special’ look my mother-in-law gave me, across a crowded room, when she realized that her son had finally figured out that she was the manipulator.

Patty does have a beautiful voice, and I will head over to iTunes to purchase her album. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas, one that is filled with happy moments!

  5. Thank you for this great recommendation. I love her. Can’t wait to get this. I need another Christmas classic to add to my collection. Very cute photos. I wish you a beautiful Christmas with your cute family. Sun Valley looks magical! xo Kim

  6. yes, Slim, little moments….my delight when a package arrived from my brother yesterday ……and after opening and lifting out a sort of odd shape heavy item from the box…….Wild Boar BRT Shoulder*………wait what does that little “*” mean ?! …… ohhh I see the fine print, “meat from feral swine”……Merry Christmas to me???

  7. oh,…. about the feral Swine…..let me interject the box was from D’artagnan, and of course I got excited cuz’ to me, that REALLY means foie gras or better yet, truffles (thats what my foodie daughter @ asked for Christmas last year and Santa did tuck a few black and white truffles in her stocking)……………………… any recipes out there of Feral Swine?

  8. Lovely post as always. I had the pleasure of seeing Patty on T.V. last week sounding fab and looking the same. I remember the night we enjoyed having a delightful dinner with she & hubby…until the waiter spilled food on her new coat. He didn’t even seem upset!!! Merry Christmas to all and a healthy New Year.

  9. Thank you Slim! And a very Merry Christmas to you and Dennis…really enjoyed the songs, the album is on my Wish List….it’s the only gift I wished for…..🎄🍷🎶🎶🎶🎄🍷

  10. Seriously, Slim….How could you look any better? You are gorgeous in that photo!!!
    Merry Christmas!!!

  11. Dear Slim,

There aren’t many blogs, or anything, for that matter, that are funny, witty, uplifting, and give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside, but yours does. Thanks so much for the years of wonderful posts you have given.

    Lisa D.

P.S. Your pictures of Sun Valley have a beautiful and tranquil quality. Is Sun Valley still that way, or is it very developed and populated? I have not been there since I was 19 – I won’t tell you what year that was!

    • Thank you Lisa! That’s so nice.
In answer to your question, although I’m sure Sun Valley has developed much since you were there , it is still just lovely and doesn’t feel over-populated- at least not to me 🙂

  12. I will definitely check out Patty’s new album, great sampler songs, thanks for the post-heads-up!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

  13. Thank you Slim for sharing info about the new album. Absolutely LOVED “Come on December”, both the lyrics and the tune, and will enjoy the album. {P.S. Her quote was hilarious and oh-SO-true!} Merry Christmas!

  14. Oh, this post brings back so many happy memories of Christmas in Sun Valley. Snow, Carolers, friends, kids, great food and of course the ski instructors carrying lighted torches skiing from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Loved it.

Would love to hear from you!
