I’m going to be like the party guest that won’t leave,

still banging on about summer & watermelons while every one else has moved on to pumpkins & cashmere

But isn’t that the beauty of writing my very own blog?

NO BOSS :)

Cheers & Have a fabulous Holiday Weekend!

  1. Feel the same way about gingham checks! Hope you’re soaking up all that gorgeous sunshine, with THAT HAT and a good sunscreen of course! One more thing…where can one pick up a few pairs of those snuggly summer slippers – Love them!
    XO

  2. You are feeling exactly the way I feel, or should I say, I feel exactly the way you feel.
You hit it right on the spot……..love this post and the color blue…..Have a lovely weekend!

  3. I am with you, I want to drag out summer as long as possible. Though, you’ll laugh, as I write this, in the south of France, trying to overcome my jet lag, there is a steady drizzle coming down that feels like fall in Seattle! Rethinking plans to go to lunch in Antibes or market in villa france…. Raoul’s textiles looks amazing, are the rugs from there as well? Enjoy your sun.

    • Oh No! I’m sorry it is raining there- what a bore. At least you expect the rain in Seattle in the Fall! Hope it clears soon.
I snapped the rug photo in Muskoka, Ontario this summer. The rugs are “Dash & Albert”- great price point.
and yes, Raoul Textiles are great, and a Santa Barbarian to boot :)

  4. Please share who makes those yummy navy & white striped slippers with the fleece lining – Love them, want them, need them! Thanks!

  5. i’m so with you re summer. why hurry it along?
and omg, have you read the book by cheryl strayed entitled wild? i cannot put it down. i know you would absolutely love it.

ok, brace yourself, i’m going to new york at the end of next month, i know. and i don’t know what comfortable shoes to wear. i know you know the answer to this. so fill me in.
why don’t you tell me what to wear while you are at it. :)

and one last thing, no the desk won’t fit that way in the office.

    • I bought it for a friend who is a great hiker/biker but I haven’t read it myself yet. I read the excerpt where she attempts to put her backpack on for the first time and that made me laugh- it reminded me of my “Carry On” luggage!

  6. “Another day in Paradise,” is what I have said EVERY day this summer in The Lakes District of NH……feel so blessed…not a word I use loosely…..to have had this summer…especially as others in the Mid West and South have had weather-related problems to battle……maybe that is why the time has slithered past…..too many perfect days, no way to mark their passing…..oh well, here’s to another inspiring post and now I have to gather up all of the blue and white and stripes I can find to wear to the…..say it isn’t so……end-of-the-summer(!) party tomorrow….along with my orange, bright pink, and jewel encrusted nails (I did do it!…just like your coulorist’s assistant)……..
    Thanks!

  7. It is funny you should post this about navy and white stripes……….I have been wearing them all week and the only reason I can come up with is that it was too danged hot this summer to think about wearing much of anything! Love the photo of the dog-so very cute–would love to have him. I agree with you that it is not right to let summer go just yet as it is the first time all summer that I can actually be outside–cooled off here now to high 80’s-yay! It has been a scorcher out there…not to mention the smoke from all our fires. Time to start enjoying what is left of the summer–cheers!

  8. Slim,
There is no better color combo for summer than blue and white…but seriously, can’t we have cashmere and pumpkin weather NOW! It’s too hot (she whined).
    Xo,
    Karen

  9. Those turkish towels are beyond. Speaking of Turkey- you should see the blues there Slim.
Also love the selvidge jeans in the Armani pic.

I’ve been dying for this summer to end- it’s been gruesome in LA. But now that the cool evenings are back, and after reading this beautiful post, I might have to rethink….
    xo

  10. Wish I could send you a picture of the sunset
At the beach club this evening. And summer will
Keep going for us for at least a month or
More. So don’t be too sad. Another fabulous
Blog!! Don’t stop, please! So inspirational!

  11. We are having matching weather here, it’s the 2nd day of Spring and the skies are clear and blue and gorgeous.

I too am surprised about some of the inclusions on the Best Dressed List in Vanity Fair.

    Have a lovely weekend- it’s Father’s Day here x

  12. I probably walked right by you! I have always said……the Coral Casino looks and feels just like the “Eden roc” at the “Cap d’Antibes!”!

(don’t publish this if it gets too close)

I just love the way you describe things around here! We are on the same “wave length”!

    It seems to me!

  13. I love blue and white and summer and Armani, but think I have played Seal way too many times. Thank you Slim that was the perfect choice!!!!

  14. Even the old timers here in Arles are saying that this summer was simply “too hot”. Without a/c folks just stay out late partying all night–right under my bedroom window. So I am feeling wrinled and bedraggled. We have had a break these past few days and its like “Hallelujah!”–I can feel myself puffing back up like an inflated inner tube! So, I am not with you on this one, Slim. Although if Seal would sing to me like that, I would be willing to follow him to the hottest parts of the planet. ;)

  15. Be still my heart, blue and white stripe heaven! You are so lucky to have Dash & Albert not to mention all the other great stores on your doorstep. Bet I won’t find any of those fab linen/silk throws here :-( You probably think I should be more grateful that we have Johnstons Cashmere, Walkers Shortbread and a zillion different whisky distilleries on our doorstep but that’s ALL we have!!!!

  16. OMG!Did you see the JEAN PAUL G. show in SAN FRANCISCO??Well, it was FABULOUS and it got us to the ARMY SURPLUS store to buy mens old navy 13 button pants! Now we are looking for the correct bateau blue stripe top!He took the NAVY SAILOR pant and made them into long skirts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BRILLIANT!Think you would love!
    LA CONTESSA UP NORTH!

  17. I need a central coast re-do, parked poolside at the Coral Casino. We were in Morro Bay last week & I about froze to death! Foggy, chilly, 62 degrees…not my scene. ;-)

  18. S.P. – If you promised to wear the Ferragamo out and about (as pictured), would Mr Paley EVER wear one of (he can choose which one) the Armani ensembles? – out and about?

My Hubby is in a big phone exchange right now with his buddies, deciding what they will be wearing to a 6pm at home engagement party tonight. Looks like they are going with “modern” (blue w/spread collar) dress shirts – no ties and slacks. Only a BIT better than where they started – sport coats and ties!

Can you tell He and I have mismatched wardrobes? ;-)

    Cheers!
Love it when you choose the soundtrack…

  19. Yes. summer is lovely… and then Fall comes and I realize that changes make us appreciate each thing as it happens. But…. aaah summer…it is my favorite. Love the last lovely look! thanks

  20. For my birthday my husband and I drove up to SB from LA and had the most delightful day. Bought me a GORGEOUS Italian necklace in Wendy Foster, wanted to pack up the whole store and then upstairs, Eyebobs, if you dont know them google them, so fuunnnnn, Ralph Laurenish tortoise round with chartreuse!!!! rims on either side, gorgeous and then dinner at The Palace and breathing in that scrumptious SB air. It was a slice of heaven. xo LM
Y0u are so lucky to live up there!!!!!

  21. What a lovely ode the the end of Summer. And heck, no I am not ready to pack up my nautical stripes yet. It’s been gorgeous up in Northern Cal too. I still have to finish my Summer reading and I’ve got more mint waiting to be in cocktails…Fall you’re just going to have to wait. Loved this!
    Kim

  22. I’m not sure why but this website is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end? I’ll check back
later and see if the problem still exists.
