On one of my very first posts on S.P., back in July, I posted a YouTube video as it related to my trip to Japan.  I am posting it here again for Christmas being that it is one of my all time favourite pieces of music. It’s  called “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” from the movie of the same name starring David Bowie.   I can’t tell you how beautiful this is- you MUST give it a listen.  I could have just downloaded the music, but I prefer to include the video of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s live performance as it is SO passionate.   BTW, can I have hair like that in my next life?  In fact, while we’re at it, I’d like to play the piano like that too.  Hey- it’s Christmas- one can dream…

  1. Oh my Slim. Not sure how I missed this the first time around….but that is sooo beautiful. I want to go to bed and have this play as I fall asleep. I think it would make me cry although I am not positive what I’d be crying about. Tears of joy?

  2. What an incredible and wonderous musical performance…..you have truely sent out a Christmas gift to all of us blog readers!

(I wonder what conditioner he uses?)

  3. It sure made me cry. Of course I have to hear it again, and yes still tears left. .That was cute M.L. mentioning his conditioner.

  4. The tree is spectacular ~ LOVE the orange slices! . . . . and the baby shoes. Did they belong to your dad? Piano music makes me miss my Grandmother more than words can say. She was a piano teacher and would play for us at Christmas. I’m doing oranges next year. Thanks for the great idea.

    • You can download the music from iTunes Petunia, and he has many CD’s available on Amazon. Sakamoto also composed the Soundtrack for The Last Emperor, another favourite of mine.
