The City of Brights

So many posts…so little time

Hence, here we are, almost at the end of summer (say it ain’t so!!)

and me still sitting on a stash of unfinished seasonal posts that never had their moment in the sun

Though most of you could have probably lived without seeing this shot of Gisele,

I did, so now you have to.

Besides, it’s a great pic to leap into a little post about the preponderance of fluorescents this summer, is it not?

Did you notice the brights too?

I’m sure they were in all the magazines, but it didn’t really register until I went to Paris.

The flash of fluorescence was everywhere.

My great girlfriend, who lives there, had her nails painted like so;

I thought it was adorable. (please forgive the poor photo- it wasn’t originally intended to be a hand shot)

Then another friend joined us from Australia- she too had little touches of fluoro in her look; a sweet combo of tiny bright enamels on chains around her neck.

Suddenly I felt terribly beige.

I do have these cute little fluorescent rubber sandals-

but did I bring them to Paris?

of course not!

The Hermes, Paris windows were gorgeous.

Each one a different fluorescent colour, these circles slowly turned causing the sand within to create art in motion.

So clever.

  1. Very nice to see. Summer goes away so much quicker, here in Alaska. I may put this post as a shortcut on my desktop (next to the red-winged blackbird call I have.)

  2. Hi Darl

Fluro, or Neon is where it’s at.

Bought the baby a fluro orange top today and matching board shorts. Threw in a fluro green tshirt too for Good Measure.

Pink and orange bright nails have been The Thing for yonks. Hooray I say.

Can’t believe your colourist has an assistant. Fancy.

You do lots of travel, but none to Oz. Why? Does the 17 hour flight make you nervous?

    Cheerio FF xxxx

    • A Fluorescent Baby- I love it!
Must see a pic of him in his day-glo’s.
I will get to Oz- I will, I will!
It’s not the 17 hours-I’ve flown much longer than that. It’s more the time once I’m there. It’s so darn BIG I feel that I must have at least 3 weeks to really do it justice as well as spend time with my family there.

PS. Well, my colourist is in LA, after all :)

      • Slim, just found out that we’re headed back down to OZ, this time for a year! Hope I can keep my blog going this time. You do need 3 weeks to do the rain forests of North Queensland, the Great Barrier Reef (Heron Island), beautiful Sydney, Melbourne ( where we’ll be…..just voted the #1 most livable city in WORLD!) and Uluru, the great red spiritual center of the country/continent, to name just a few of the unique special places. You all come!

  3. Your post is perfect for an end of the summer POP of color! Fall is not here yet, so let’s enjoy color!
Having just put my son on a plane to Paris for a semester abroad, I am hoping to visit him and will try to remember to bring my own touch of color! Paris is certainly a city to inspire. Wonder if my son will notice this color trend….?!

  4. You made my heart sing!! My hubby wanted to know why I’m “smiling at the computer screen…??” Reading Slim!! franki

  5. So timely! Perfect inspiration for our imminent southern summer. Merci! And what beautiful hands those nails adorned – incredible these were spontaneous shots – I am (fluorescent) green!

  6. Ohhh, to be…….what? Do you think you have to be young to wear lime green nail polish?
On the other hand, up here in relatively conservative NH, I was at a service the other day and looked down and the 60-year old minister had bright turquoise toenails peaking out of her black pants……refreshing!
I think I’ll go get a multicolored manicure for the Labor Day party this weekend……for real! What do you think?

    • “Do you think you have to be young to wear lime green nail polish?”
      Pas du tout!!
Go for it this weekend. I’ve done it already :)

  7. Love the neon colors! I have a daughter turning 13 in 2 weeks and it’s all neon, neon, neon. Duct tape bracelets are fun to make out of these colors, too. It’s cool to see the stuff I wore in high school coming back.

  8. beautiful post, did anybody else have some teeny tiny pictures that wouldn’t enlarge here or is that just my computer? The last two were that way as well as several others? Oh well what I did get was enough to let me know what’s happening on the world front of fashion…another reason I love this blog!!

  9. Slim,
So summery, so you. I remember when florescent colors were the rage last go around and it was hitting all the clothing…I can remember sending our sons to school with florescent yellow and green shorts and they loved it! lol. I do really like the bright nails and sandals.

  10. I am SO IN LOVE with that fluorescent wetsuit swimsuit, omg. Would I not be the cutest little SCUBA girl in the whole world?? Ahh….I love it. I also love those embellished nails, wowza! Where does one even get that done? My nail salon will at most paint a flower on my thumb if I ask and I’m lucky!

  11. Paris IS always a good idea. Au revoir summer …. part is sweet sorrow. That being said I do loooooove fall fashions … and the chill in the air .. and fires in the fireplace … to say nothing of CHRISTMAS !!

  12. Beautiful! I don’t think I’m brave enough to wear neons myself, but the pictures are stunning. I remember when neon was huge in the late 80′s, so I won’t be going back to it haha.

  13. Hi Slim,
I loved this Post! Loved the shoot from Gisele the most! I just visited Rio De janeiro and everyone is running with the flourescent collors tennis shoes! Not summer yet here but during my vacation everyday was a sunny hot day!!!And of course every week a diferent color in my nails!!!Sending love from Brazil!

  14. Slim, Love this and will be running out promptly to buy some of that fabulous mauve flourescent nail color. I will squeeze all I can out of what’s left of Summer, nails and all!

  15. Colour therapy just what I needed but, I am sad to report, I think Summer is gone here on the Scottish Highland coast, last night felt like a cold damp Autumn evening :-( I will have to surf the Australian/Californian blogs for my sunshine therapy from now on!! :-)

  16. We are leaving for St. Tropez and I will be getting out my neon things….but The Scottish Highland coast….cold, damp Autumn evening sounds rather lovely, too! Great blog!
