Follage Hand Soap

Friday Favourites is baaaacck! Bet you thought I’d forgotten.  The truth is,  I’ve been off my shopping game. I know, I know.  I’m only telling you… I don’t really want the word out on the street. I’d hate to crash the economy completely.   It took this gift from my funny friend to snap me back to Friday Favourites again-  How hilarious are these “HAND SOAPS” she gave me?!  Gosh people are clever.

So, Lady Luck was a no-show in Vegas, it was raining when we returned to Santa Barbara and now I have a sore throat. To add insult to injury, while I was gone, some depressed rodent decided to cease twitching his whiskers right beneath my kitchen desk window in a very, shall we say, awkward place to get to (Did I mention it was over a hundred degrees while I was away?)  But other than that, everything’s great. I’m drinking copious amounts of home-made apple & ginger tea with Agave and lemon, and steadfastly avoiding the desk-al area of the kitchen as, although everyone else thinks I’m a crazeee lady, I’m still getting a little Eau du Willard, sore throat, ginger and all. Oh It’s such fun being a Virgo.

My Favourite Recipe for Sore Throat Tea

Slice several apples and a whole bunch of fresh ginger (as much ginger as you can stand) into 8-10 cups of water. Bring to a boil and simmer for a little while, til apples soften.  Strain tea through a sieve into a mug and add agave syrup and a little lemon to taste. Drink as hot and strong as you can stand.

OK, I shouldn’t be talking so much with a sore throat, so speaking of clever ideas…

I’m  loving these “leaf plates” from  Japanese designer NOWNAO

Nuits De NoHo by Bond No.9

Not sure how apt the above description is- I don’t get ‘patchouli’ at all, but what do I know? Other than it is DIVINE and both my husband and male friend that gave me the candle both love it too!  Decadent, delicious, but sorry to say, expensive. Comes with a cute little sample of the perfume though. Check out the website- it’s great, or even better, stop by their Temple of Temptation next time you’re in NY.

And in honour of the stock market going back up over 11,000 today!

  1. OMG that Chicken Pot Pie has gotten my tummy rumbling. Yum. I WILL be trying that one. xoL
ps – those little creepy hands … yikes. good for Halloween though!!

  2. I think those little soaps are both adorable and creepy- rather more delicious than just one no?
RIP indeed- how nice to celebrate his little life- Slim I love that you did that.

  3. Hi Slim, gotta say the “hand soaps” were a tad more than creepy!

Love your sore throat tea, always do likewise, except you forgot the most important ingredient, JACK DANIELS! Try it, you’ll like it. Won’t even THINK about your sore throat.

The Japanese leaf “plates”, amazing. Would not put them in the dishwasher however.

Did I say those hand soaps were creepy?

    • As always entertaining and informative, and ALWAYS makes me have a good belly laugh.
We shall discuss the soaps at a later time!!!!!!! WHAT THE———- are they thinking?
Amputated baby hands????????? Cute or sick? Love You Adore the Blogs……..Hugs

  4. Those hand soaps and apples are completely creepy!!! Ewwww. Why not put them in a Mason Jar with some agave and tea so it looks like formaldehyde, and then drink from it! That will really freak people out!
Love the undies and candles though. Phew….

    • OK, L.E. you win my Most Demented Commenter of the Day Award!
Although what does it say about me that I sort of love the idea- and it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had my mouth washed out with soap 🙂

  5. I’m a comfort food girl through and through, and the pot pie looks FABULOUS!! Usually my biscuits are Andrew’s practice hockey pucks, but I will never.give.up! Can’t wait to try it and many thanks for sharing the recipe! The hand soaps are cracking me up! How come we don’t think of these things? Like pet rocks….the silliest damned idea that made millions! I won’t sneer at the next investment opportunity for something funny/stupid/pun/silly! lol.
Hot Toddies are a staple for the adults in this household…lots of honey and lemon and
good old Jameson’s Whiskey with a TAD of tea and boiling water. I’ll have to try the JD
sometime too! Have you tried Rye? Wonderful….we’ve been drinking Rye Manhattans
lately. A few of those will kill any bug! Have a gorgeous fall weekend! xo

    • Yes- all Creatures Great and Small
Sweet little mouse- at least he lived well in a great house for his short time
      on earth

  6. Poor little mouse? They torture and maim and kill hundreds of thousands if not more of them just so you can wear eye shadow! Get the priorities straight please.

  7. i can top your small rodent with a dead SKUNK who committed suicide in the crawl space underneath my kitchen, and due to extreme exterminator incompetence, took a week to get removed (they decided he was living underneath the house, and attempted to trap him- but you know what? dead skunks won’t crawl into a trap, no matter how tasty the bait). the scent of a thousand candles couldn’t make last week palatable around here!

enough about me- take care of that throat & feel better, slim!

    ps- diggin’ the leaf plates!

    • M21- A tip- just in case this ever happens to you again (you might guess correctly that I’m hardly an ‘Expired Rodent Virgin’)
Don’t use scented candles you really like- you will forever after associate the scent with the Pepe Le Pew Incident.

      Must share this too;

“In the morning we went up to the village and bought a wire rat trap and fetched it down, and unstopped the best rat hole, and in about an hour we had fifteen of the bulliest kind of ones; and then we took it and put it in a safe place under Aunt Sally’s bed. But while we was gone for spiders, little Thomas Franklin Benjamin Jefferson Elexander Phelps found it there, and opened the door of it to see if the rats would come out, and they did; and Aunt Sally she come in, and when we got back she was a-standing on top of the bed raising Cain, and the rats was doing what they could to keep off the dull times for her.”

Mark Twain, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

      • fear not, slim- i didn’t waste my beloved mariage freres candles on pepe le pew. i did however, keep a cinnamon/apples/cider vinegar concoction found on the internets boiling on my stove for the week- xmas-y vinegar reek is better then rotting skink odeur, believe it or not!

and i guess pepe also kept off the dull times for me as well, but personally, i’d rather be bored silly.

        😉

ps- you seem to have expertise in this area- maybe next time i should call YOU! what do you charge for a house call? can i pay you in handsoaps and martinis?

  8. For someone who is sick, you do seem to still be on your Friday game. As one who recently sat beside a sick passenger for 9 hours( I did try holding my breath but that didn’t work) and then got sick for two weeks so I am with you…………wash your hands and stay home when you are sick! Use those creepy little mutilated hand soaps if you have to (not you SP, I know you do). Happy weekend. XO

  9. OK, OK, so how did you know that I collect hands? Makes it easy when you’re travelling the world and walk into a souk or a shop and ask if they have any hands…….usually you can walk out with nothing to buy, but you’ve satisfied your hunting and gathering urges—it’s really cut down on the extra luggage home problem……..I’ve found a silver Talmudic finger pointer on the streets of Venice, and then there is the wooden articulated artist’s hand, the hand coat hook, the eye in hand symbol, etc., etc., BUT I have NEVER seen those adorable (?!) little hand soaps……so do you think your friend would tell you where I could get them…………wringing my hands as I await your answer……….

  10. Ha, love those soaps!!! and the plates are fantastic.

I’ve never seen a phone like that, i think people used to call them “land lines” 🙂

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

  11. Love those crazy green plates, will try to get some. All the candles are beautiful. Cute post, but have to agree those little hand soaps were a bit creepy to me. Can’t please every one.
Hope your throat is better. Happy weekend xo

  12. Hello (Babe) Paley/Slim (Aarons) — am I close? Just linked to your wonderful blog.
Great post, got to hand it to you. And after your surprise guest and throat soother,
that chicken dish should do trick.
    BarbaraG

    • Thanks Barbara
You’re half way there- Yes, Paley as in Babe, But Slim as in Keith, not Aarons…although he’s no slouch either 🙂

  13. I dig the soap baby hands. Do they come in any other baby parts? And what scent are they? Baby powder? that would be too literal.
Would these make a good baby shower present? I think so, I do.
Love the apples, too. Are they candles or just gimcracks?

  14. Hey I still have one of those old black rotary dial phones. And it actually works just fine! Even when the power is out, unlike the other phones in the house. Of course I couldn’t live without my iPhone.

  15. Love that black “phone” thing! I heard a very scary fact — the flu virus can live for 17 days on paper currency. If you leave it floating around in your purse it is contaminating everything – filthy, fabulous stuff. Thank goodness for credit cards.

I hope you feel better soon!
