How about that Superbowl?! And never have I seen so many great examples of the colour combination Turquoise and Teal, than directly after I posted it on the weekend. Good Lord. Expect a Turquoise & Teal part II in the future, with all the goodies that came my way.
It actually reminded me that the same thing happened when I posted about ‘Red & White Stripes’ back in July of last year.
So as the days linger ever so slightly longer
and we begin to tire a little of wintery hues
As red roses bloom romantically on the horizon (don’t forget- Valentine’s Day is this Monday!)
I offer up a collection of Red & White Stripes for 2011

Anyone know what to do when you’ve forgotten the entry password to a Mac ? Will this involve another shame-faced trip to the “Genius Bar”? 🙁

“Ultimate Berry Pie” from Trader Joe’s
I started and ended today with pie, as my husband pointed out to me tonight. I’m not proud of it, but there you go. I do believe it touches on 3 of the food groups.
I was going to save it for a “Friday Favourites” but, what the hell. Get one- they are soooo good. only $6.95 – you can’t bake a pie for that!
Medium-sized piece, 23 seconds in the microwave, followed by heavy whipping cream drizzled poured around the edges (but never on top).
PS. Coincidently , I had included The White Stripes music on last year’s ‘Red & White Stripes”.
The band broke up last week. We’ll miss you White Stripes 🙁
.
~
I have had that pie. Delish. xoL
Absolutely tasteful red and white stripe theme…..About the cakes, I’m with you all the way!!!!!…..I gain weight just watching it….But more and more, please….
Thanks for this fun post–I needed this as I had forgotten how much I love red and white. I’m inspired.
This is one of my favorite posts. When I was a little girl-no more than six-my Mother had my bedroom done in red and white stripes–with a skirted round table to boot. Needless to say, she didn’t believe a child’s room needed to look childish.
The last house she bought she did her bedroom in red and white stripes and mixed in much floral prints, etc. Wonderful stuff.
Thanks, again, Slim.
(psst—regarding your mac, check your email)
What a perfectly delightful post!
Great post, as always…
The photo of the French day bed with the coronet is from Alessandra Branca (I’m 99.9% sure)…my former employer…until we had to move away from Chicago for my husband’s job…drats!
Thanks Juliet
She has a shop in Chicago doesn’t she?
I can imagine you would miss Chicago-such a great city.
It was Branca…then Atelier Branca….back to Branca now, I think. And yes – Chicago is a great town…and though chilly, sunnier than Seattle.
I’ve never been into red, but I believe Branca was quoted as saying something like it’s the zip you need to get you going. She has great style – she and Slim just might convince me to embrace red after all!
Once I was going out with a hairdresser and I had this full length tube – red and white strip dress, and one night both my shoes and my hair got the red and white stripe treatment. I wondered if he wore 3D glasses whether I’d be a health hazard, a moving warning sign?
I’m guessing it was the 80’s??!
Goodness Gracious, I have seen my share of Red and White growing up in Alabama. ESPN even has a commercial now about the lifestyle. Roll Tide.
I have had the berry pie from Trader Joe’s — amazing (And I don’t really love pie, really).
I will ask my Twitter friends about the Mac issue.
And the red stripe linens — reminding me of my beloved grandmother’s dish towels (!) — worn out with love — (my grandma AND the linens!) — thank you for that.
Oh, and reminding me of my own sweet, innocent children from years ago in so many photos like yours of your sweet son.
Since my children were very young, we have been going to Jamaica. On the flight down, did they talk about the color of the water, or the beautiful sand beach, or lazy days with nothing to do? Oh no, they talked about when they were going to have their first Ting!
Loved that photo, and yes, 6 in one day is totally do-able!!
“Ting” Lovers unite!
A visual feast!
A Twitter response re Mac was: “Boot from the disk.” If you have the original disk, I guess this means you can then choose a new password. I will ask again if this doesn’t help!
No disc with AirMacs Sherry 🙁
I love this post! I have been searching for red and white striped fabric for a year now! My living room decor is inspired by New England coastal and I am dying for some red and white striped floor-length drapes for my super-tall front windows. This post was heavenly! Thanks for the eye candy!
Gorgeous post Slim! Dreaming of the Nour el Nil! One day……..
There is something about stripes that seems to make me smile, the pie doesn’t hurt either…a visit to the Sip Shoppe too! Perfect.
Karen
I would totally buy blinds from that lady. She has probably forgotten more about design that I will ever learn.
The red stripe blinds were worth it…did she have more?
Who was sticking around to find out?!
hi slimmmmmmmmmmm!
while i’m still in deep mourning, this post cheered me.
i. love. white. stripes.

I think that the bra is called silicone and they sell them at your nearest plastic surgeon’s office.
When I forget the mac password I tend to cry after nine attempts at retrieval. I think they hide them on purpose. Great APP called 1Password you can put it on iPhone or Pad or Pod. I put on one of my iPods and it keeps everything. The only thing you can’t forget is the second secret password to that.
BTW – great post…
I LOVE all of the refreshing red and white — especially your shots in Africa and Chicago…
What a toast to red and white! Amazing collection of photos! I appreciate your blog and the time you spend creating such happiness 🙂
Thank you Lisa
Great post, Slim!
(I WOULDN’T SAY IT OTHERWISE AFTER SEEING YOU POSTING A PICTURE OF THE “MEAN LADY” … I DON’T WANT TO END UP ON YOUR BLOG AS “MEAN” TOO) lol
🙂
Have a nice day, sweetie! 😉

Ooooh – must go get the pie today! I can eat pie for breakfast too…
World of Interiors has been my favorite magazine since it started.
I am getting rid of lots of magazines, but never those! Love the
red and white stripes. She does look mean – very mean!
Hey Slimmy!
Being a “red” girl at heart….love the stripes. Actually red is my favorite color (on the bottom of my shoes). Period. In the air headed to Canyon Ranch and the boat, wishin you were here with us! Read my blog today, you’ll get a good (embarrassing) laugh. I really couldn’t believe I wrote it… hum…..
I am not American, but whenever I see red and white stripes that’s all I think about. Very American.
TING!!!! Completely forgot out that fab little bottle of soda! The best refresher on a sunny Caribbean afternoon as well as a great mixer with Vodka! I ordered cases of it awhile ago from a beverage wholesaler…must find that contact again!
Lake Muskoka, Summertime…5pm…Vodka & Tings lakeside = Heaven

Go to the “reset with the installer DVD” instructions.
That is of course you didn’t throw out the original discs with the box?

Yummy, yummy RED LOVE!
Just sat down after a morning of volunteering at my kiddos’ school. And I’m TOTALLY wearing red & white stripes today!! Slim – I’ve never felt so “in.”
Now for the pie . . .
Your little boy – too cute – love how subtle the stripes are in the background. Love reading your posts esp. when I’m having a somber week like this one. :(. It’s good to have an online spot like this one.
Sorry to hear your week is a somber one Terri.
Thank you. Times like these I enjoy having a Maltese doggy around. What does Ting taste like?
Stunning collection. Love the photo of your son.
What on earth was wrong with that Frenchwoman? Yowza, if looks could kill!
Pie for breakfast is wonderful. I do it whenever I can.
Your posts are like Candy, or better yet, a great cocktail, I look forward to each one!
Your thoughts on Manolo Blahnik’s house??? I for one would be driven mad by the frames hanging over the gorgeous trim, not to mention that it’s then all off center…
Kaycee’s comment – very funny
Ditto on Tracey’s recommendation for 1 Password for iPhone. How else am I supposed to recall Gilt, and bank passwords??
Thanks for another great post 🙂
Wow, I totally noticed all of the turquoise, tangerine and teal on Sunday.!!!!!!!!!!!! Thought I was imagining it cuz I had spent so much time gazing at the wonderful pics on that post and the links from it……….but no, it was the color theme wherever I looked, in the background, creating a mode……for some reason I’m even feeling like it’s the primary subtle colors used in the King’s Speech and other great movies out now, can you remember where you saw it cuz now it’s driving me crazy……….would have to go back and see them and can’t get out of the house until my new hip heals but so glad you confirmed my underlying feeling.
Yeah!
THIS GLORIOUS POST…TWO IN A ROW THAT LEAVE ME IN A HEAP AND THE SIX EGG AND TOAST TOASTERS FINALLY ARRIVING AFTER GOING TO SOUTH CAROLINA FIRST (HUH?) HAVE MADE THIS A PERFECT DAY -UNTIL MY EVENING COCKTAIL. OH…AND WHERE DID THAT LITTLE BOY GO????? X
Thank you so for the anticipation and then the smiles and laughs and sighs of yes, yes I too want that with each post. I really believed I was a blue and white girl and know I find myself unsure, do I love teal and orange or red and white stripes or?? Is it wrong to want it all or at the very least to e joy seeing it all? I think not. Anyway I love all your posts and look forward to each new adventure.
A mean french woman??? Say it ain’t so!
Okay, I am being unkind but Slim, you demonstrate your brilliance by actually snapping her photo! Why didn’t I think of that? What I wouldn’t give to have a photo of the horrible woman working at the Musee d’Orsay that I encountered, among others. I”d have start an awesome blog just so I could publish her photo!
**Love the Chicago buoy-thingy–you have an amazing eye!**
Your underlying humour gets me, the good taste and the food is what i expect but when you make me laugh i miss you
Stunning pictures! Your pie looks gorgeous and so does your son xx
Hello,
You have created a beautiful collection of images. There is something for every taste, romantic, nautical, etc. but your son’s photo is invaluable.
I didn’t know about the voting. I shall vote for you next time.
Congratulations!
Hellooooooo
What I want to know is how the HELL are we supposed to remember ANY of the fifty or more usernames and passwords we need to access anything online? It’s becoming a nightmare, ok,
I’ve entered them laboriously into my IPhone, but I have to refer to that every time I need one, after I put in my IPhone security code, if I can remember that after a glass or three …. And what if I lose my iPhone? My life will be over!
‘Nuff said!
Talk about déjà vu, I keep hearing about the Sip Shoppe and here it is AGAIN on your post!! My hubby and I have our sights set on Napa Valley for our next getaway and we will definitely be checking it out. How fun it would be to go Wine Sippin’ in Napa!! Thanks, as always, for the fun and informative post! BTW, cute kid 😉
Awww – love the picture of Younger Son. And no I would not buy blinds off that lady, I’d turn around and run out the door.
LOVE AFRICA PHOTO!Really beautiful people….and younger son!
What a wonderful compilation of red and white stripes, Slim.
Admirers of red and white stripes might enjoy pictures of the red and white striped awnings of the old Florida Capitol.
The old Florida Capitol’s red and white awnings were used from the 1890s to the early 1920s. They were replaced during the restoration in the 1980s. Since the old Capitol faces east and west, it receives direct sunlight throughout the day. Many types of window protection were used over the years including shades, blinds, shutters and awnings.

And now I’m hungry! Love all the stripes…

Hello again,
I just posted about your collection of Greek aperitives. I have read you traveled to Greece. I was wondering whether you actually like and drink ouzo and tsipouro. (I do) Also the posters are interesting. You are an original as always.
I DO drink Ouzo when in Greece Irene 🙂
OK will someone PLEASE make it safe to go on that houseboat soon? And not any houseboat up the Nile – that one. Hurry….
Thanks Slim
Your email does not seem to be working, so I’ll ask you here – Clarisonic – Thumbs up or down? Thanks!
Thumbs Up on the Clarisonic Joanna, and thanks for the heads up on the email- I fixed it.
The Samburo Warriors are rocking the red and white stripes. Great selections Slim! She does look mean and her left hand may be carrying a gun.
Being Austrian I am partial to red and white stripes. I enjoyed the one you did last year and followed up with a quick story on my blog about the history of the Austrian flag. http://www.adeenidesigngroup.com/blog/2010/07/08/slim-paley-beat-me-to-the-punch/ Keep those red and white stripes coming.
Cheers,
Claudia
