Last night I had the great pleasure of attending Yoko Ono’s annual lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower on Videy island, off the coast of Reykjavik, Iceland. (she says, casually 🙂 )
I know, right?! An amazing, surreal and joyful experience.
As we set off on the small ferry to the island, to our left the setting sun cast an amber glow upon the boats in the harbour
While to our right, yet another enormous Super Moon, perhaps the Superist of the year, rose magically above the snow capped horizon.
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening or clearer sky.

Making our way down the path to the Peace Tower
The white stone tower is engraved with the words “Imagine Peace” in 24 languages and the light power provided by Iceland’s unique geo-thermal energy grid, using approximately 75 kW of power.
Yoko gave a brief, but lovely speech, and the tower was lit. The first chords of “Imagine” began, John’s beautiful voice and poignant lyrics filled the air as beams of light pierced the frosty night sky above Reykjavik.
Amid the stars, the Aurora Borealis and glow of the Super Moon, Yoko began to dance… inviting everyone to come join her.
I told you it was surreal.
Peace, love & light…and music
Making our way back up the hill after the ceremony.
The tower will continue to be lit every night from the 9th of October, John’s birthday, until the 8th of December, the day of his passing.
Life goes on and we celebrate and remember all the good things and good people in this world.

We say good-bye.

It looks like such an amazing event and so happy you brought us along…enjoy your trip!
Slim, is it always in Iceland? and if so, do you know why she chose Iceland?
That song always brings tears to my eyes, just what I needed this week:)
Wow! What a great experience….she is not so bad after all! I gained a new respect for the “Women who broke up the Beatles”!
A little choked up here…very beautiful.
I was just looking at vintage John/Yoko pics today…I had no idea she was still so involved and committed. hhhmmm…this might be my 50th birthday present for 2015. thank YOU for spreading the peace.
Slim, thank you for bringing this beautiful event to our attention. You presented it so beautifully. Very touching. Thank you.
It looks lovely. John was a visionary and is missed. I still remember where I was when I heard the unreal news of his death. His gifts live on. His presence will continue to enlighten people because that’s what music does.
How stunningly poignant.

As I a child of the 60’s – I really mean it – A CHILD! Young! – this has special meaning …we all thought and believed “peace had a chance!” I love that Yoko is keeping it alive in our IMAGINATION! Give peace a chance!!!
This both breaks my heart and heals it. I would love to be there someday.
beautiful! xx
This is beautiful. I looked it up on Wikipedia and was surprised to see it was unveiled in 2007 – I had never heard of it before. So glad you got to experience this and so glad you shared.
Beautiful just Beautiful!!!
What a beautiful event. And your incredible photos captured it perfectly. Thank you for sharing.
What a cool trip! Love that song – as with so so many Beatles / John Lennon songs.

Wonderful. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring message of hope.
Thank you Slim…my heart is soooo touched.
Omg, that picture of the moon over the mountains. Breathtaking. Such a beautiful country. I had never heard of this event and now I have a new bucket list item! So happy that you were able to experience it, AND that you so kindly shared it with us.
Thanks for taking us along. It was beautiful and what an amazing tribute to John and all that he stood for.
Wonderful! Wish I was there! John was a Libra one of the best Signs 🙂
The truth is that we are called to be ONE. Peace is the light of the world. Thank you for this beautiful post. Mary
I wish the people that really should see this would see it and learn!
Hi Slim, I am not going to be able to stop this from playing in my head! “You May Say I’m a Dreamer, But I’m Not The Only One, I Hope Someday You’ll Join Us…and the World Will Live as One!” My absolute favorite song of theirs, just awesome! Thank you for taking us along, I really can’t IMAGINE! It was gorgeous and surreal, seriously thank you! The most surprising and mind blowing thing to me is that he would be in his mid-seventies…WHAT? My first album was Abby Road, I was twelve! That is crazy, we are all too young! BTW you look amazing! What a surreal and mind blowing experience, thanks again for taking us along!
Dear Slim,
Wow just wow Slim. Stunning pictures. John Lennon and I shared the same birthday. This is an awesome celebration of all that he was and sadly all that he might have been.
Thank you for sharing this with us all.

Such a wonderful experience to share Slim. Thank you. As I lay my head on my pillow not too far from now, I will “think about the fact that it’s there” and hope “…it is going to unite and connect all of us…” at a time when it is so very needed xo

Extraordinary! Your travels and photos
together with your Voice…….. Is CANDY!
Both John Lennon and Yoko Ono were and are genius – with human flaws – but geniuses just the same. Beautiful post!
Wonderful journey….thank you for letting us in on your travels.
Let me just jot that down on my bucket list….
if this light can touch most of the people our world would change. A very sensitive project from Yoko Ono.
