Green & Black Saturday

Did you participate in Black Friday?! The whole concept of the crowds and parking madness makes me shudder.  I saw that some stores opened at 4 a.m. !  I saw commercials of women exercising…getting prepped for the event- might have been for “Target”, I’m not sure.  Not that I don’t love a good Target run as much as the next savvy shopper.  It comes second only to Costco in providing me with the most things I never realized I needed until the moment I see them.  I think there might be a “tense” problem in that last sentence, but I’m so tired and I’m dashing to get this posted before Sunday or I’ll have to change the entire premise.   In any case, this Thanksgiving weekend marks yet another year  I didn’t get all (any) of my Christmas shopping done before December 1st as I promised myself I would.  For those of you that have finished already- I am GREEN with envy!   I might have to go pour myself some Absynthe just to drown my sorrows…

  1. Your ears must have been burning. I’m sitting here with an egg nog and brandy (the drink, not the dancer) and I said to myself, “Self, I wonder if Slim Paley has a new post.” And there you were in my in-box.

Love the Green theme. Reminds me of yesterday when I bought my daughter her first bra. It’s green. I said she could wear it for St. Patrick’s Day. Her response? MOMMMMMM!

Please don’t tell her I told you that. Cheers!

  2. Love it- I want to ride a dark horse headless in the green velvet Armani
and whose is the could not be better old palm print ( all time favorite as almost anything )
suit!!!! With envy this green all over me who needs emeralds?

  3. I was wowed at the lovely arrangement and then…Black Friday is most definitely not for me – however I do rather like green – there are a few too many items here that are unfortunately calling my name – in particular the fabulous Shaunleane earrings. I was at the Michael Kors show – loved that skirt – talk about effortless chic. And too funny you showed Cecconis – my post this coming week is related 🙂

  4. I did not participate in Black Friday. I am spending a lot less this year so will take my time in getting great gifts. Some of the sales looked wonderful but not what I was needing.

I will take this time to thank you for your wonderful blog. It is a joy to read and has become my favorite.

  5. I’m going to dream tonight of that green crocodille and velvet Armani suit. Would rather have that than the Asprey emerald. They probably cost about the same! And those light green Hall Porter Chairs with black trim are so chic! The banana leaf print pajama ensemble looks like wallpaper was ripped off the walls of a hallway in the old Beverly Hills Hotel when Hernando Courtright turned Tony Duquette or was it Don Loper? loose to do the decor.

  6. The Armani reptile dress with the big green velvet collar -WOW !!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this post. Have never thought about green and black together like this before.

Great inspiration. On Monday it will be a black coat, green gloves and a scarf that ties them together.

  7. I literally cried when I got down to those Bottega Veneta shoes. And green velvet is all I will think about for the next week…

    Thanks

  8. I am not a green person but you make green look so luscious and…well…enviable. I might have to try some green velvet.

  9. I ADORE any shade of green. love it all. on a side note, my mother in law received a Steven Webster ring 2 years ago for Christmas from my FIL and returned it. yes you heard me, she returned it. I am still sick about it…it was gorgeous. I think she got some roberto coin bangles instead (BORING!)

  10. Many items worthy of emerald envy for sure! I’m in NY, but had no early morning ambitions for shopping, I did make it to Bendel’s by the afternoon – where they were having a jewelry happy hour (30% off from 3- 6)!

  11. Thanks! Great..I will pull my green green gear from Thailand and wear it for lunch today, forgot all about it!
I love going Xmas shopping when no one’s around….never did black friday I think I would become hysterical…..some times my shopping happened at airports around the world ,hotel shop,or a shop next to my house! Not once have I been on time like all the millions out there…..Ce la vie!!!!

  12. Slimply beautiful! Love the lady all decked out from tip to toe in different shadys of green, and I’m so interested in the Absinthe: I want to taste something that Vincent V drank!

  13. Love that lace basket, very cute! lots of great photos in this post.

I like the idea of Cyber Monday over Black Friday…especially because it’s easier for Canadians to participate:)

  14. Wonderful collection of images. I especialy liked the Cecconis bar in NY – unique and beautiful all once.

I’m with you regarding Black Friday. I don’t like to be rushed when I’m shopping. It is an experience and I tend to make rash decisions with so much commotions. I hope your Thanksgiving went well. We’re having a white Thanksgiving weekend here in Oregon and it must say it is most certainly putting me in the spirit for the holidays. 🙂 Have a wonderful start to the week.

  15. Slim,

I want to thank you very much for your comment on my blog. It meant so much to me! 🙂

It’s funny, around 2 years ago if you asked what color I would never wear or have around my house, I would’ve said it was green, but I guess for seeing it so much with all the: “Go Green”, I actually started to like it, and like it a lot. Interesting, because I didn’t know that you can actually change your opinion on color. I am planning on painting my bedroom in a very light (washed green).

Your post is stunning! You must have fun while doing it, because you do it so well… and of course, the good taste doesn’t hurt neither, huh? 😉

    HAVE A VIBRANT WEEK!

    xo

  16. I’m thinking emerald green might be my new favorite color. I wonder if it’s too late to put a Steven Webster ring on my christmas list to santa. I wish we had Black Friday, although I would never go shopping at 4 a.m. no matter how good the bargain was.

  17. My favorite color! Although the palm frond uni-suite reminds me of the Beverly Hills Hotel…
Thanks Slim. I always feel a bit more……glam? After taking the scroll.

  18. Think I will pop out for a little Sunday Shopping; Emerald ring, those exquisite earrings, Jo Malone,
Chanel purse, lastly Bottega Veneta shoes. Just a few things, today being Sunday and all.
Lovely post as usual Slim, can see many of those pieces on you .
Thanks for sharing and allowing me to dream.

  20. Absolutely love the little green fairy perched on the martini glass at the end!
    The emeralds were divine too!

  21. Funny. I was already planning on painting my nails with OPI’s Jade Is The New Black tonight–and now you’ve inspired me for what I’m going to wear tomorrow, too.

    Cheers!

    • I wore Chanel gold nail polish on Saturday night- it looked nice at night but sort of icky during the day. I don’t think I could get away with green polish on my hands- I think I’d reeeelly look like Skeletor then!

  22. Gorgeous and opulent as ever. Am i the only crazy follower that loved Black Friday? Once arriving in New York and finding out that shops open at 6am with my jet tag in toll woke up at 5 and ran down to Century 21 and filled my bags with Ralph Lauren and DKNY for my kids, not even the first in the queue but thoroughly satsitfied, walking through Soho to get to the hotel bought loads of other things for myself from normal shops that opened at 9am and happily arrived to my tiny room at the Soho Grand taking a picture of all the bags piled up on top of each other, almost touching the ceiling (rooms are particularly small) Spent my entire budget before breakfast and hubby is just waking up! It worked out particularly well for me.

  23. hi slim,

i love green and black color combos. your images are spectacular.

i esp love the uncredited outfit of the gauzy/filmy green pants with the white top and brown leather strapped bag. i can imagine myself in that. v pretty.

    have a happy week!

  24. The occasional glimpses we get of your home definitely leave me craving more, Slim. Any chance you’d do a post featuring it?

  25. EMERALD ISLE IS FINALLY CHIC. GLAD TO BE PART OF THE HERITAGE.
AND OH BY THE WAY..I’M DONE. I MAKE SURE IT IS BY
JULY FIRST. TRY THAT IN THE COMING YEAR. XO

  26. Hi Slim…I’m with Janet…love the green gauze pants! I would totally sport those to go to Target or Costco!

Love your table for Turkey day too!

Would love to hear from you!
