Golden Pears and Prayers

As we rapidly approach mid September,  I’ll finally concede it is indeed time to acknowledge the changing of the seasons.  Summer in Santa Barbara? We hardly knew you.   There are many things about the Fall that I love, don’t get me wrong…although the turning of the trees,  smell of burning leaves, and  distinct ‘crispness’ that creeps in before the real cold arrives are pleasures we don’t truly experience here.   Still, Autumn in Southern California is not without it’s charms.  Our Liquid Amber trees put on a quite a  show, the sunsets never fail to delight and we do grow great pumpkins!   When our children were younger we had the most amazing Halloween parties at our home, even if I do say so myself 🙂  I miss them so!  BOO hoo!!

.

.

So once again we face the task of putting our summer wardrobes and linens to rest- adieu beautiful turquoise and aqua… it’s time to start thinking in shades of burnt umber and gold…

Oh- I almost forgot- I have positively GOLDEN information to share with you!  My new camera? I got the Leica V-Lux 20 for my birthday…only to be informed by my sister (the Ralph Nader of the family) that I was basically paying a few hundred dollars extra for the little red “Leica” dot. She said the camera was virtually identical to the Panasonic ‘Lumix’.   The old “Toyota in Lexus clothing” switcheroo.  So I bought the Lumix and lo and behold….  (Is that “What a Good Wife Am I” music I hear??!)

Have a Golden Week Everyone!!

  1. Slim, I actually love the mustard color, but I’m not giving up on summer colors so quickly. I’m hoping for a balmy Indian summer. I love blue all through the summer, and now I am incorporating shades of orange to take me through another month, at least. This was my favorite color combo I saw in Sardinia, Italy this summer. Hoping to get a post out manana.

  2. Slim, I am still clutching onto summer as it tries to wrestle away from my suntan lotioned hands. Really, is it fall? Can we have Indian Summer first? A few Santa Ana winds? Is it really over??? Well, if it is then I love this post. It gets me all toasty comfy feeling.

  3. Ok…I am now dying, I mean dying for a pear. I am not getting out of the bed at midnight and going to Publix. There is just nothing better than a ripe, sweet pear! YUM.
Now to the camera. I was about to buy the Leica D-lux 4. So now the Lumix, ok. WHEW.
The Fendi is fabulous, of course. Excuse my sentence fragments, because and am half asleep and dying for a pear (and that vodka) that you make look so good with your camera.
    Have a great week.
    Teresa

  4. luv, luv this post !!!
    and…..Slim,
whatever camera you have in your hand and place up to your beautiful eye…does not matter.
YOU make the photo…not the lens.
    xoxo 🙂

  5. Dear Slim,

Love your Vuitton trunk as coffee table and love your mustard jacket (and covet it). Your mustard roses are so pretty. I love pears, especially when they’re part of some sort of caramel upside down cake arrangement. With icecream.

  6. Gorgeous fall post, Slim! Your roses are stellar and I can’t wait to try the pear vodka. I’ll take
the Paciotti boots and the Pecoraro jacket, thankyouverymuch. Thank you for the camera
information, also! Have a wonderful week! xo

  7. LOVE this color and love your vintage Maurizio Pecoraro jacket! Gorgeous!

My own British mum has also told me that there’s just one color that doesn’t ‘flatter’ me – Peach (must be something to do with my olive complexion…) but that hasn’t stopped me from rocking it! Currently my nails are painted a china glaze peachy keen and I’m loving how it looks with gold jewelry.

Thanks for inspiring me to pick up some gorgeous golden/mustard accessories for fall! (Not sure if I’m fierce enough to pull off a big patch of the color!)

  8. I love, love, love pears—I realize that isn’t the jest of your post but I loved the images! Jo Malone has the best fragrances—I’ll have to check out the pear-freesia. I also loved your Golden Mustard rose, is that a hybrid tea rose?

    Thanks for the fall inspiration.

    Karen

  9. Another gorgeous post! And I had heard the same about the cameras being the same, but I wonder if there really is any appreciable difference? At any rate, enjoy the new toy!!

    • the only notable difference between the two cameras is the Leica shoots the HD video in “JPG Format” and the Panny shoots it in “AVCHD Lite Format”…. AVCHD is the preferred format of the two

  10. Love the colors on the sofa….your posts are a kick and a blast.

But now, I’m sill wondering, ….”Lo and behold ” what? It’s not clear to me, which camera do you prefer??? Is the picture quality the same with each camera????? I want to get a camera with the incredible quality and clarity of your pix!!!

    • Sorry if I wasn’t clear about the cameras.
To my amateur eye, Jane, I could not detect any discernible difference between the two, therefore I opted to keep the less expensive Panasonic (which fits perfectly into my old Leica “Safari edition” case.

  11. My fav. fruit Pears. I loved the site “They draw and cook ” very cute. Wow how stunning are your Golden Mustard roses ? Fendi vest ( I think ) yes please. Yes all the boots smashing.
Lovely post. happy week ahead ox

  12. love the posting…amzing color…
may i ask about the camera….what are the numbers on the Lumix…went to costco today and they have two different ones…one is $145…the other $269…want to buy a camera for my husband for his birthday ….thank you…nina

    • Hi Nina
If Costco has the Panasonic Lumix for $269 you should get it- That’s a great price- just make sure it has the 12X optical Zoom feature. Your husband will LOVE it!

  13. Slim –

I discovered your blog about a month ago after you mentioned it in House Beautiful. Oh my, you do make me laugh. Glad you’re out there.

  14. I am lucky enough to say that I got to be a part of several of your Halloween parties you used to throw for the boys. I agree, they were amazing! PIKACHU brings back memories too. Randomly the YAHOO headline tonight puts that platform gameboy Pikachu shoe as one of the ugliest of all time, there are some other lookers you should check out:

What do you think of the Hoof Heels?

    • Oh how weird is that?! But I wish I’d known about the “Funtasma Pimp Shoes” for my previous leopard post!
Those hoof heels actually make me feel a little nauseous 🙁
Thanks for the link Momto Two.

PS. Just trotted out my “Picachu”impression the other night- I’ve still GOT it 🙂

  15. I CAN’T AFFORD THE FENDI COLLECTION SO I AM GOING TO GO FOR THE COLEMAN’S FALL LOOK. LOVE ALL.

  18. This post is simply delicious. Did you take photography classes, or are you innately talented at photography?

Would you respond with the complete model number of the Panasonic camera you bought? I’ve looked at them, I can afford one, but I’m hung up on getting one exactly like yours! I haven’t found a blog with better photographs.

    Thank you.

    • Thanks Woodsie
No, I haven’t taken any photography classes- I just shoot what looks good to me .
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS7K. Please keep in mind this camera is brand new to me- I haven’t even used the HD filming feature yet. Virtually all the photos on my blog were taken with the Leica D-Lux 3.

      Happy Shooting!!!

Would love to hear from you!
