Do you ever get a song stuck in your head?

So it is for me at the moment with colour blocking and the colour orange.

Good thing orange is one of my favourites.

Once I had  “I shot the Sheriff” stuck in my head for several days. I mean really stuck.

I don’t want to say I hate that song,

but…

I hate that song.

I have to go now.

This photo has just stirred up the terrible memory of selling my Hermes black & gold Collier de Chien belt on Ebay in a moment of insanity

(convinced I wouldn’t wear belts high on the waist any more)

Ugh! Shake it off Slim, Shake it off!!

.

Even worse, I’m starting to hear “I Shot the Sheriff” in my head again

I’m going to cleanse my mental jukebox with a song that I don’t mind listening to over and over- In fact it’s a favourite;

I dedicate this song to my belt, where ever in Australia it lives now 🙁

  1. Great post–complete agreement re substituting real (as in home whipped & not ultrapasturized) cream for the cool whip; maybe half and half coconut milk and condensed milk. I’m going to try this recipe next week-end. As for Hermes–as always, perfection. Have a super week. Mary

  2. Oh how nice to have my morning coffee with you, Slim! Love almost everything in this post and you reminded me to go look for some orange/tangerine nail polish this week. So tell us, do you have a shelf for every season/color or do you switch it up during the year? Have a good week!

    • I switch up Summer & Winter Susan – I don’t like to look at my winter clothes in summer and vice versa!

  3. I love orange in the summer. Looks good with a tan! The Hermes slides are gorgeous, and the orange sherbert recipe is a “must try”! Love your blog!

  4. Great post, SP! Love the color combos and the Happy Hermes colors. Ahhhh…..
So sorry to hear about the Collier de Chien …I share some of the moments of eBay insanity.

  5. Is that ‘Bazaar’ clutch on your Orange shelf the one you carried at Grad? Circa 1976? Oh how I envied that clutch – the absolute height of cool!

  6. I can relate. I really regret selling some of the jewelry that my first husband gave me in the seventies. Gorgeous gold bangles and big rings that are back in style – and worth so much more now than I sold them for… ah… shake off that terrible feeling of regret.
Beautiful post though, as always. Thanks, Slim.

  7. if only a shelf in my closet looked like that! Or even that I named shelves in my closet things like “Winter Violet”, or “Rainy Day Madness” and I had incredibly lovely and fashionable things that all put together looked like some fashionista art exhibit…your posts always make me dream…

In this post I would add my daughter’s amazing red hair – hard to explain in words, but she came out of nowhere (well, it didn’t feel like nowhere) with this incredible head of strawberry blonde hair! Even when she was little people would ask us, is it natural? I had to laugh, “No, I dye my 4 year old’s hair red.” Yeah, right. Then 3 boys followed – no red hair in sight.

    • I just saw a girl walking down the road this evening with the most amaaazingly gorgeous red hair and thought about your comment Julie. I have a friend with truly incredible red hair too- and as thick as a horse’s mane.

PS. I might have to nik your shelf names… “Winter Violet”….”Rainy Day Madness”… I’m inspired!

  8. Love the double strap watch as well….The music from the film BLack Swan drove me insane for one night!

  9. There is a song in my head called “TANGERINE”. I believe that’s close to ORANGE.
Loved all the lovely clothes and handbags. Thanks for a very colorful post.

  10. of course a summer orange shelf in your closet…………….casually georgeous. I love that you have one and I can lust for yours, but my heart knows: mine would never look like that – once more reminding me that I live vicariously through these posts – I, myself, am most fond of that fun, Giambattista Valli little, drapy, tangerine and taupe summer frock, delicious.

  11. Great post, I love Orange!

The 3rd photo down is so pretty!

and it’s actually sunny here today in Vancouver so I don’t even mind looking at summer colors.

    yummm Frosty Orange Cream!

  12. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, thank you for posting it. Love your fresh summer take on Orange; you always put the best vignettes together.

Here’s a great youtube with Todd Rundgren singing your song with Daryl Hall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pLTD23l468

I used to get Talking In Your Sleep by The Romantics stuck in my head all the time…. beware!

    • Oh SWOON- Daryl Hall!! You have NO idea what a crush I had on dear Daryl. That hair, those long legs, that voice… Thanks for the great find J.J.!

  13. Oh, those tunes that get stuck in one’s brain! There is a word for them…”ohrwurm.”

    Beautiful post – thank you.

  14. I just got a summer “orange” bag! Love your post. Of course, I wanted the orange birkin bag but very unobtainable settled for another. The orange color makes me happy!

  15. Hi Slim
I guess orange is my least favorite color (please know I have no where near your style or taste :-)) I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m a redhead and it really doesn’t look good on me. That said, you have made me reconsider my indifference to orange! Love the Hermes tote.

I had a song from Glee stuck in my brain and I don’t even know the name of the song…I could hum a few bars.
    Karen

    • Karen are you SURE it doesn’t look good on you. I was born a redhead long ago and am now more of a strawberry blonde with streaks of red (hiding the gray!) and I’ve always had about 1/4 of my closet orange and another 1/4 hot pink because I always feel so good in these exciting colors. They lift your spirits so. Look again! You might find you suddenly look quite striking in it!

  16. Love orange. Always have. Hermes + your shelf = ENVY! Love me some Todd R. What a delicious post!

  17. I once had The Star Spangled Banner stuck in my head for, like, four years. Ugh.

Orange is my all-time fave! There is an appropriate shade for every season. What a happy color!

  18. I love the idea of a “summer orange shelf” – what’s not to love about orange? Biggest selling used item mistake I ever made was not realizing the value of custom Tailor Made clubs I received as a hand me down…as soon as the guy walked away with the whole set, another man nearby was shocked and told me that I could have gotten that for each club! Ouch…oh well!

  19. Great post Slim. I love orange, but not a good colour for me to wear. I just walked out of my office (work from home) to an amazing smell. Hubby has just made your “MOUNTAIN COMFORT SOUP” from a previous post. This time he added mushrooms and home made sausage. I had a huge helping , DELISH. I will be trying your “FROSTY ORANGE CREME” very soon. Thanks for all of your ideas, fashions and cooking, keep them coming .

  20. Hi SLIM, Gorgeous post,as always, I have become addicted. You are the only other person I know that has admitted to getting that horrible song stuck in your head, and I first heard “Can We Still Be Friends” while babysitting ,two lifetimes ago. In fact, it is the only song that I have kept for life that I never tire of. I did the same thing with all of my “Mom belts”, drat. When is Chinatown going to get it right?JK

  21. Delightful post as usual Slim. Loved all the fashion and accessories.
I would love a peak at your shelf also. I have to admit I have an Hermes Wallet? Pocket book?
Oh yes, forgot it is orange. I love it every day. Have had for many years- It was a gift from a loved one.
    Thanks for sharing ox
    Go Go Canucks!

  22. Whats not to like???? Going to try the sherbert. Looks so yummy….maybe I will decorate
    with the sandels…Great post Slim.

  23. i’m loving orange as well these days. You always choose the best images….but I must say, the very best images in this post were those taken by you!! From where is that first incredible shot????

  24. I too, am plagued with songs stuck in my head – learned from that august institution, CBC radio that this phenomenon is called an ‘earworm’ – creepy and apt at the same time, don’t you think? D.

  25. Tonight I will dream of riding the gorgeous Public bike to the local Good Humor truck. I will order a creamsicle from the vendor who will be wearing the tribal /Hermes belted outfit (and I will get to see the rest of his face) who will flirt with me so much that I will end up ordering 4 or 5 more creamsisicles, that will be serverd on the Limoges china. But miracle of miracles I will still fit into the Giambattista Valli wrap dress.

P.S. I share your pain over the Hermes belt – I got rid of all of my waisted belts only to realize that every time I put on a pair of low waisted tab fronted pants/shorts I feel like a mechanic and wonder where my “Stan” name tag is. Oh orange…..you are adored. Thanks for another great post! Debra

  26. My stuck in the head song was “Take me out to the ball game” – it nearly put me over the edge.

  27. hi! not to be cheeky, SP, but the ring you have tagged as “monique pean” is actually Kimberly McDonald and was available in the spring at our store, Browns, in London. Kimberly’s work is very distinctive. if it’s not too much trouble, perhaps the credit could be corrected.
    love the blogx

  28. Thank you! I just sent KM the link to your site. She will love it and appreciate you correcting the credit. Next time you’re in London please pop in.
