My tree was delivered today.
I picked a beauty!
I felt so sorry for Ed, my Christmas tree man as it was SO windy here in Santa Barbara the last couple of days, the trees in the lot were falling down almost as fast as they could stand them back up.
I’ll start to decorate it on Sunday. As my lights are flicker flame bulbs (and I’m a Virgo), none of the bulbs can be sideways or facing down. The process involves two ladders, several days, a glass or two of wine (no climbing up the taller ladder after the second glass and ixnay on the martinis
)
It’s always a festive combination of singing along to Christmas music and swearing, with my most creative cursing saved for the tree top angel, who I’m convinced has had it in for me for years. Not gonna lie, she’s kind of a bitch.
But the orange slices are in the food hydrator as we speak and the entire house smells delicious!

A Slim Paley Advent Calendar! Just what I wanted for Xmas!
I love you.
How you do that? The snow, love it. I will be thinking of of you on Sunday, I will be writing my cards. Can’t wait to see it-you will share, I hope. ox
Love everything. Love the snow. Love this idea. Looking forward to tomorrow on the Slim Advent Christmas Calendar. <3
I can’t wait to see the flicker bulbs on the tree. I bought a faux tree but now I’m thinking I got the wrong size… but do I really want to take it apart and lug it back? I’m ready for wine.
I really love your blog …lots of personality!
OMG Where do you get those buttons? could not read the copy of this blog, looked pretty but too hard to read. can you let me know on my FB please, my kindred sister…:)
Where are the button peppermints from??
Sorry, there are direct links under the photos of peppermints and Christmas decorations- perhaps the pink wasn’t showing up on ipads & phones.
Hello Dior shoes with pink bows – I love you.
Love the snow too.
I want tree decorating action shots, maybe even a video! and you better be wearing a Santa hat.
Feels like it might snow for real in Vancouver pretty soon…
OMG…the shoes!!!!! I am in shoe heaven. Not to be worn on ladders, for sure. Probably better worn totally sober as well, which of course is no fun…!! Maybe I can use profits from newly sold house to add these to my collection.
Utterly charming. That is what you – and your blog – are! Loving this Slim Advent Calendar! And – fingers crossed – hope to see photos of the tree – wayward angel and all.
You know you are addicted to Slim Paley when you keep checking for the promised daily dose!!!
Love the header!
The shoes… OMG the shoes…I don’t generally like platforms..looks like club feet, but I would make an exception here.
Delightful post!
I love the snow and the martinis. Have happy Sunday. Mary
The snow is genius!
Just like a month long Christmas card.
Thank you sooooooooo much. Cheers!
Dear Slim.
This is all very Slimtastic. I for one cannot wait to see the Magic of your tree.
Mine sends yours its love.
Meanwhile it is BOILING here. love FF x
Honestly…you make my day…or in this case…my night. Cheers! franki
Ha ha ha ha ha!!….you are a funny girl, most refreshing in these times, thank you Slim!
Still laughing!!! Love the part about the angel—–sounds like the no martini rule was a wise decision!!!!!!!
Very cute snow. I look forward to the rest of the countdown. Christine in Seattle.
“The little angel is a little bitch” LOL Priceless!
What a relief to hear you haven’t started your tree yet – I hope to buy one tomorrow???
1st of all, I love the snow! 2nd of all, I do more (in the south it’s just downright cussin) decorating my tree than singing. 3rd, I love the bitch angel. You are my morning cup of coffee. and since it’s 4:50 a.m. I’m just sayin you make gettin up early worth it. Keep posting at night so I’ll have a little present on my computer every morning! OH, this is SO wild. Got a fb message from a neighbor from 20 yrs. ago. Literally haven’t seen her since she moved to California. She either reads your blog or may live in your neighborhood and saw either my post or Slim Pickins. What a freakin small world! So she fbooked me, and now we are back friends. Thanks for helping me reconnect! xoxo

Keep us laughing….CHristmas is a house of cards otherwise! My ‘unreal’ tree goes up tomorrow too! oops – it kind of goes up by itself – yes, I am a cheater, but I have to get my 16 years out of it or it’s a drag on the environment. Don’t ask me – I just read these things!
I LOVE THE SNOW! I’ll be decorating {and singing, and cursing} on sunday as well. Cheers!
Would love to see the tree trimming on a video, haha!
Those shoes are amazing.
Especially love your snow!
Love the snow! And the description of you putting lights on the tree. Why hadn’t I thought of drinking while decorating? And I love how you threw those shoes in there. While I’m not one for pink, those are amazing! Can’t wait for day 3 – you’re spoilin’ us, Slim.
SWEET!!
Love the SNOW! Sunday is tree decorating day here too! It is my children’s job … and I will say as they have gotten older I don’t have to “re-decorate” when they go to bed anymore!! Well, maybe a tweak here and there! My husband and I have egg nog … with lot’s of nog! and enjoy their antics while they do all the work!! Cannot wait to see yours … thanks for sharing!
I liked the Xmas ornament video on One Kings Lane (I’m a huge fan of this site)…..
I know what the founder means about keeping Xmas simple……
love u SP and all of your beautiful and hilarious musings on life….
Oh, I love the peppermint buttons, and the mention of oranges in a hydrator puts me in the Christmas spirit.
Have a nice weekend, and try to be careful.
Teresa

Slim, love your posts. The button candies are delightful. I have to thank you for turning me one to Fresco towels. Just sent one to my daughter for Christmas and bought myself one as well.
BEAUTY-full!
Yes, the snow is a lovely touch! Sugar spun delicious post, and my days are always great when they start out with a laugh! xx
Oh my gosh never thought of putting orange slices in there for the smell…. brilliant!
You are getting me in the mood …wrote Xmas cards yesterday!I think I will just follow your schedule and be looked at as a domestic goddess….Great ideas’s!Getting to be quite a computer wizz kiddo as well …..!!!!
Slim I had to laugh about the angel and the snow. I thought I was seeing spots and kept blinking and then I realized it was snow!! Love it! Have fun decorating your tree, I am outside today doing my front porch. I got two fresh garlands and two fresh wreaths having so much fun. I love this time of year, Merry Christmas from Northern California,
Kathysue
Back in June you advised us on how to “set the bar” reminded us to put away all those wintery liquors and drinks….. interested in showing us the Holiday Version?
Love your posts!
Great idea Marylou- will do!
Yes, a Slim Advent Calendar! You write what goes on with the rest of us, and our Angels must be long lost evil sisters. You are hilarious, as usual. I remember collecting tons of Radko ornaments, and then cussing like a sailer when they, inevitably, came crashing down, hence I only have a few left. Thank goodness.I will so look forward to your daily dose of FUN!!
This is so funny, I’m a Virgo too! Yes, it’s so hard to deal with imperfections, but someone’s got to do it. As Virgos, it’s our job to get things straightened out even if we’re the only ones who notice.
I’m lovin’ the Slim Advent Calendar!
Slim, how do you keep a live tree looking good for so many weeks – I would love to put mine up sooner but I find after two weeks it’s looking pretty dry and stick-like….not to mention a fire hazard. Yours will be up for four weeks….does is still look good Christmas Eve? how do you do it?
Hi Susan
Good question! I’ve had a few trees dry out on me over the years. In fact I’m a bit concerned about this one too as it isn’t drinking too much water and usually they are very thirsty the first couple of days. This is a big tree- 12 ft so not only is it sitting in water in the stand, it has 2 bladder bags filled with water drilled into the trunk at the back. Ideally, you should make sure the place you are purchasing the tree from FRESHLY cuts the bottom, so that just like flowers, it will drink up the water.
Fingers crossed!!
