I was driving down the highway just the other afternoon when out of the corner of my eye I glimpsed the most incredible blur of colour
Honestly, I was concentrating…

Did you know that Cockscomb flowers are also known as “Wool Flowers” or “Brain Celosia”,
suggestive of a highly coloured brain.

I guess what I’m really trying to say is;
Stride boldly into your day my friends
and always look on the bright side of the highway

Oh, wait…

Beautiful…
You are just the bomb how you put things together, and you are also at the top of my list today because you gave me my first laugh out loud outburst with the, ” But who amongst us Slaves to Beauty wouldn’t have been tempted to stop and snap a few stems, er pics?” Love the images, love the clothing, and love your magnificent sense of humor!!!
Love this post Slim. The colours are stunning and such a welcome post on this dreary & drizzly day here in Vancouver! Love your funny take on just about everything! Will take your advice and stride boldly into my day!
Kim
Can I be you when I grow up! When they talk about living an authentic life, you are doing it! Thank you for these daily hits of beauty and the art of living well.
Oh man. I’m sitting here in my 3rd all-black outfit of the week going gaga for everything in your post. Even the little orange hipster fridge (with the knowledge secure in the back of my mind that “Magazine Living” would make fun of that photo). At least I did manage to put on red shoes today. Thanks for (all) the great post(s)!
Thanks, I needed that. A burst of humor, color and fashion, all in one post.
Karen
This was so colorful and happy! It really cheered me up today
No matter how busy my day, I always take a few moments to drink in the images on your blog and enjoy the witticisms. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talents and your enchanting life. I meant to chip in on a blog you wrote a couple months ago about songs that stick like glue. Anytime my sister annoys me I sing the chorus of “Muskrat Love” by Captain & Tennille. Remember that gem? ~ You have a growing fan base here in La Jolla, Slim. Keep up the beautiful work. All my best to you and the family.
arrrgh-Muskrat Love-the worst!
GORG!
Love the song! I am groovin’ right now!! This shot of color is so fantastic. I am wearing my poppy orange jeans today, so today’s musing on color was especially apropos for me. Thank you for the burst of color and sunshine.
Happy Wednesday to you.
Slim, you’re the best! And by the way, isn’t the beginning of that song dangerously close to “I Can’t Go For That” by Hall and Oates?
Thank you for the witty post, SP! I loved driving thru Carpinteria when we were kids…which signaled we were almost in much beloved Santa Barbara! Love Wendy Foster’s–so much charm on display.
Beautiful. I like your style!
Beautiful pictures, beautiful clothes. Thanks for the laugh. Have a great day.
Best…Victoria
Carpenteria Diem!! That’s genius.
I am driving that direction today, from LA to SF, and hope to stumble upon these fields! Any idea if the lavender fields around Santa Ynez are still in bloom? I’ve got to plan my floral adventures, stat xx!
The colors are just fantastic. It never ceases to amaze me how your mind works so quickly to co-ordinate all those colors from the flowers into jewellry, into clothes into furniture even to the orange fridge. Loved it and what a wonderful way to start a day. Thanks.
Just love it…I recognized some of the perfect Californian scenery on the flowers pics….Paradise place, this Montecito….Thank you for sharing your colors with us…X
I LOVE the way you color! franki
Love it when you go gardeny!
Gorgeous colors! All your photos are stunning, especially that first one.
After 8 days and cold nights of no power in Connecticut, it warmed me to see such beautiful color and texture. I envy your talent, eye and humor!
perfect
Uplifting, fun and gorgeous! So glad you haven’t consumed the all white/grey/greige blogland Kool-Aid. Love ya, Ruth
Color, Color, Color!!!! Thank you for uplifting my spirits!!!
P.S. I am glad I am not the only one who stops for the occasional stem. ( I mean pic! )
Kelley
the gloomiest of all gloomies here in ol’ St. Louis. Thanks for the uplift…I do love, love, love cockscomb. They are often the forgotten one. Thanks for making them a major league player and hey, oh my…the big balls of fun! WOW.
i never really liked cockscomb until this post. (shame. shame!)
always thought them a bit creepy. now i think they may just be
fun, silly and cozy. yes! cozy.
and i think the orange ice box (you’re too young to call it that)
is neat!
see how i dated myself two different ways there in just one
sentence!
but i do love it.
cheers sp,
tammy j
We could always have a “How Quickly and Effectively Can You Date Yourself in One Sentence” contest…that could be super neat!
GOOD GOD!!!!! Your blog is absolutely STUNNING!!!! WOW!!!!!
Thanks!!!
Okay, so I wasn’t just imagining that the Simply Red song sounded like that Hall & Oates song, right?
ps – really love the feather headpiece at the beginning of this post and those big balls of yarn
at Pierre LaFond
Had you been in my backyard today raking leaves you would have seen all these colors red, yellow, orange , green, magenta. Marveling at their beauty it made a dreaded task much nicer.Wish I would have had the foresight like you to have taken a picture of them!! Great post as always. (I’m ashamed to admit I open your emails first before any others)–we won’t tell my friends!!! Thanks
so gorgeous! what a beautiful place you live in Slim. Thanks for sharing it with us!
And this: “Stride boldly into your day my friends
and always look on the bright side of the highway.” this, I love
your mind works in beautiful ways!!

Love all the bright colors! It’s great to see colorful clothing, I’m so tired of black.
I love it when you speak the language of flowers! Gorgeous, beautiful, colorful photos and inspiration!
Gorgeous colors! You can only find beauty like this at this time of the year in California. Everything is pretty gray around here. This post was a nice change for my eyes!

Oh so beautiful! Somehow I missed this post so I’m a little late in commenting but all the color has brightened my day! And your Thanksgiving table was spectacular! Thanks for the inspiration.
Just found your blog and love it. This post in particular is wonderful.
I am a color girl and your images and sources are just glorious!!
