Ahhh…it’s here.
The stunning copper light of Autumn.
There’s nothing quite like it. I follow the glow as it filters through the house until slowly fading to black through the windows of my bedroom office ( where I’ve craftily cropped the chaos of my desktop out of the photo)
As you can see, my climbing rose is still happily keeping me company, no more blooms, but plenty of foliage.
You’ve gotta love Southern California!

Copper is such a great hue to really bring out the colour of your eyes. As a green-eyed girl it used to be a favourite, but try finding copper eyeshadow that doesn’t have a lot of metallic (metallics are no longer my friends

I have a small touch of copper in my kitchen sitting room.
The patina changes with the weather, but never turns green in Santa Barbara.

A penny for your thoughts
~
.
.

That copper light reminds me of Autumn afternoons in sunny Alberta. I am now back on the West Coast in Vancouver and realize that’s what is missing with the grey days…copper light! Not knocking the Coast because there is no place more beautiful…just saying. Maybe the copper JPG shoes will make up for it? Thanks for the ode to autumn Slim. It’s one of my favorite seasons!
A penny for my thoughts? I’m thinking your taste and sense of style are priceless!
That chair is a fancy edition of the infamous “twirlysquirt” design. Verrrry uncomfortable but always gets a giggle with loopy guests.
Love the copper, never tire of it and will take one of everything including the JPG skates (wheee!).
Caption for unique chair “design” – “way too many nips from that copper flask.”
Out of all your beautiful pictures from far and wide, the pictures of your homes are still my favorites!
The penny floor almost made me weep. The wit, the color, the installation! Genius. But of course YOU would find that, Slim
So much coppery goodness in this post. I use to have a lot of copper, I wonder what I did with all of that stuff?!! I do love the warm glow it adds to a room, great inspiration here, Kathysue
Hi,
I love copper. Some of my favourite things are my French copper bowls for whipping up egg whites in. Your room looks so soothing and relaxing. I’m going to reply to your email x
You have a great eye. Beautiful post. Happy Cdn Thanksgiving!
Hi Slim,
Another wonderful post. I especially like the views of your lovely home. The climbing rose coming through the window of your bedroom office is so special. It reminds me of the vines coming into Rose Tarlow’s exquisite living room. Your taste is perfect and always coupled with wit (like the lunch room light) which keeps things from becoming too precious. Even though your homes are beautiful, I bet your family feels comfortable really living in them. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and the views of your home. Best, Ruth
The penny floor has my heart–who cares about cleanliness if it looks that great?
Thanks. Mary
BRING IT ON!!!! I LUV COPPER! We just replaced the roofs on four of our cupolas with copper and they are g o r g e o u s! MORE! franki
That light always reminds me of “Dances with Wolves”. I loved the movie but by far, my most favorite part and most remembered scenes are of that light on the prairie.jd
cool!
Here’s your caption for the chair: Lady Gaga’s Next Costume. Your lunch room looks like a dream!
Lovely, nice morning post. I must know is the darling banquette in your home? feels like it should be in mine! Happy Friday. Pam Kelley
Yes, my kitchen.
Happy Friday to you too!
Thank you, Slim.
My hub and I moved from SoCA 6 years ago to a remote island in the PNW. I still get homesick –especially this time of year. You’ve made me feel better–like I’ve had a warm visit home.
I am your Opposite or Balance…we moved from PNW about the same time to SoOC. I am wistful and longing for the cold clear days you have ahead. Or how the fog sets in almost to the ground trapping (you can hear them for blocks) the kids voices as they walk to school. And with the change in weather you get to change into a different wardrobe and enjoy hot and hearty meals.
Thank you I C Beauty. This was cathartic to write out.
Beauty captured at it’s best. Light is amazing! All the photos are creative–love the plate wall in your kitchen. Now if I just had the copper tub to go soak it all in!
One of your most beautiful photographic collections, Slim.
Thanks for shedding some coppery light on such a beautiful color palette!
-Susan
the copper light after rain… yes!
this morning the light here is pewter… looking forward to your ingenious post on that!
love,

you have the prettiest home. thanks.
The gleam of copper one of the most beautiful metals, especially gorgeous in Autumn. Thank you Slim!

Beautiful, Slim! Love those Carolina Herrera dresses. As I read your post I kept hearing James Taylor’s song “Copper Line” going through my head. Thanks for a great start to a beautiful fall weekend! Enjoy!
Beautiful post!
How about that Gaultier Spring 2012 photo! Fascinating.
Love the hazy light of autumn, especially in the morning when there’s lots of fog hanging in the air.
PS – Does anyone know how often copper pots need to be polished to remain spiffy looking? Is it a once a week thing or more of a once a month thing?
Your home is stunning, Slim. Trying to think of another application for copper penny flooring… love it, but wouldn’t want to clean it!
I also wish you a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Thank you for this pretty post.
Kim
The caption for the chair should be ” Warning Do Not Attempt Sitting”. Wonderful post + I am blessed to live in S. CA. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
You had me at the copper bathtub (I’m a sucker for tubs) – but I found myself scrolling back and forth to take another look at that “chair”. I wonder what Freud would say? Hmmm….
I LOVE your display of pottery and plates with the backdrop of copper. Did you have the copper hammered into the case? I ask because I’m stealing this.
Yes Dabbsie, the copper is inlaid into the back of the wooden cabinets somehow…not sure if it’s exactly “hammered”. It’s been there for many years now but still looks good.
I am always happy when I see an email from Slim Paley in my inbox.
So nice!
Slim! I am a copper girl (green eyes, strawberry-blond hair—at least that’s what my Canadian mother always called it) I use a coppery colored lipstick as eyeshadow………love it………stays on much better than powdered eye makeup.
I make twisted wire copper jewelry and only wear the things I make……..gets a great response……..anyway, have arrived in Melbourne where the light is the opposite of copper……Spring green?
As always, love your eye, your wit, your thoughts……..so gr(e)ateful for the internet here Downunder.
We just hung the most gorgeous copper lantern over our breakfast table. It warms up the entire room and now makes me want copper cabinet knobs, a copper sink…..
GORGEOUS photos! The chair made me think of an elephants trunk but are their tails that short? Not sure! The DRESSES…OMG! Love that sink! My living room is painted a very similiar color and I ADORE it! Doubt I will ever change it. Love your kitchen photos! XO, Pinky
Lincoln’s Restaurant in Washington DC has their entire floor made with Lincoln pennies set in clear plastic. Quite impressive and looks just like the one in your post.
Wonderful subdued colors blending so great in your room. You are magic.
Spirit
Great post….all beautiful, but gotta say I’m mesmerized by that darling pendant light fixture above your banquet
Please don’t ever stop blogging. Dont know what I enjoy more, pictures or comments.
Hello Slim I am new to your blog. I enjoyed the beautiful copper pics and I would love that bathtub to add to my collection of copper.
Copper…Penny…. Just me??
Lovely……so why does copper not oxidize to a green patina in Santa Barbara? I know it takes years here on the East Coast – I wanted badly to have my roof e-shingled in copper tiles (there are several gorgeous examples in my neighborhood), only to discover that I would be long gone before it reached that lovely state.
When I turned 18, I requested all copper cookware and it’s accomanying accoutrements…I’m now seeing them all resurface and wish that I’d kept a few pieces…OKL is continually teasing me with some of them…this post might make me a copperaholic once again.
Carolina Herrera…heaven!
xo J~
Love all your ‘coppers’ Slim…..xv
Insert caption…”What the f….?!?!?!?!?!” If ou want to see really goofy chairs check out ours…at least you can sit on them!
Love your blog, btw
Great post Slim!
I love that penny floor, very cool.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Ouch.
Love the oyster plates!
I have a new grandson, 4 months actually, his name is
COPPER FYN SABIN PERKINS… He’s delicious
Congratulations Jeannie! What an adorable name too.
My husband, Charlie, and I fell in love with the Arbel copper bowls in Vancouver this summer. They were priced at $8,600 each! Thanks for the video. Charlie is a bronze sculptor and we guessed at how they were done. And now we know.
How remiss of me not to wish you a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, so here it is—
HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM CANADA.
Title for the chair: “Trunk n’Tail” Say it three times fast and it may sound like “Drunk’n Tale”.
‘Cause it’s all about the “story” when artists make chairs into sculpture. Poor chair.
Linda
Was excited to see the behring paint. I work for home depot where it’s only sold. Such great coverage and colours!
Love copper and dreaming of a wonderful copper range hood. The copper images in your home are stunning, and I love the Chloe makeup!!
Hello Slim
As always a gorgeous post. The Fireplace and the Caroilna Herrara long skirt are both stunning. By the way where is PNW?.
Hello again Slim,
when hanging the washing out I realised PNW is Pacifc North West it’s not an abbreviation we use in Australia where it’s a lovely spring day
Fantastic collection, as usual. Love your home office, Slim.
Lovely pictures. I am so obessed with copper now. Trying to find out if I have something with these theme. Could not find anything other than a copper shade eyeshadow.lol. Today I will wearing copper eyeshadow then.
Hi Slim – thank you for the beautiful pictures. What a scenic drive it is for you to come home from Ojai!
You are the only person I know from Santa Barbara and my son is considering UCSB for college – do you have any impressions of the school?
Hi Kate
)
This sounds silly, but I am not that familiar with UCSB. Supposedly it’s a wonderful college but, strangely enough, most of the kids I know from Santa Barbara seem to want to go to school a little farther away from home…isn’t that crazeee?? You would think having a food and laundry ‘service’ in close proximity would be enough of an incentive but apparently NOT.
From a purely selfish point of view-if your son chooses UCSB at least you will be visiting him in one of the most beautiful locations in the country! (just don’t come in June
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help…
Thanks Slim – I know what you mean about kids not wanting to go locally. We live in San Francisco, and Santa Barbara is about as close as he wants to be! You are right – it would be a lovely place to visit as a parent!
Cheers – Kate
