In Honour of Mother’s Day;
SIT UP STRAIGHT AND WEAR YOUR FRUIT!
You ‘d have to be a Fashion Magazine Teetotaler not to have clocked the abundance of fruity delights proffered up by designers for Spring/Summer 2011…in which case, you probably wouldn’t be a Slim Paley reader, now would you?! But just in case (and because I hate to leave anyone out-this is a 100% all inclusive blog, except for certain Housewives on Bravo (and their husband) everyone is welcome here- even Jazz Lovers!) er, wait…what was I saying?? Oh ya, trust me, it’s a veritable cornucopia of fruity frivolities out there! Personally, I’m really liking it. It’s fun and it makes me smile, although I don’t generally invest in prints that date themselves so quickly, one or two pieces might be just what the Nutritionist ordered.
Stella McCartney wins for growing the prettiest, most photographed crop, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing the trickle down into less expensive shops before you can say “Darling, There’s a seed in my Mimosa”
A funny little blast from the past to accompany you…
Hey- you think it’s easy to find songs about fruit?! Save it for your next karaoke party!
Eat Up :)

Oranges & blossoms from the groves in Ojai, California

If Ojai met the Italian Riviera, fell in love and got married, this scent would be the fruit of their union

Put the lime in the coconut! oh oh …like your song!lets have some blood orange martini’s soon!happy mom day!xox
Slim, Happy Mother’s Day back! Lovely post – love the pineapple bag
and orangeish nail tones!
Perfect musical accompaniment! Happy Mother’s Day to you! Although I don’t associate fruit and mother’s day in any remote way, it was a beautiful post. That last Stella McCartney dress has something odd going on in the crotch area – even on a magnificently beautiful “mom”.
Happy Mothers Day to you, as well…………….and PLEASE transplant me out of the rain to a chair under the palms.
Thanks for a bright, and happy post.
Well done! This is my favorite blog. Very uplifting spirit!
Happy Mother’s Day, Slim! Your kitchen pics always make me happy – thanks for sharing.
OK, so if that is you, Slim, in the pic with the fruity hat and with the little yellow smiley under it–well I am going to have to hate you forevrrr for that perfect body (but will have to keep reading your blog since I am addicted!)
P.S. Love the fabric you put on your porch furniture!
Don’t worry KT- it’s a really OLD photo- you don’t have to hate me
God. I would be happy to have EVER looked that good in a bikini!
Actually from what I have seen of you in fleeting pics on the blog, you are still one smokin hottie as well as someone who is smart and has great taste!
Plus you are doing those 10,000+ godzilla steps so you must have buns and thighs of steel!
P.S. I want to pretty please see more pics of that fabulous house on the new header (if that is what it is called)of your blog. It looks bee-u-t-ful and I love the stone on it!
Delicious! (too bad I’m doing a low carb thing…)
I got a great report card from college daughter for Mother’s Day!
Happy Mother’s Day, Slim. Thanks for all the Beauty. xox
LOVE LOVE LOVE this WHOLE POST… I cannot wait for VACATION, BEACH READ, TROPICAL DRINKS andddddd I’m OFF to buy a FABuLOUS ORANGE polish!!! J’adore ORANGE!!!
Happy Mothers back at ya…love your blog. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
Slim, in the wake of this illness, or I should say, the beginning of this journey, I cannot begin to tell you how much joy and pleasure your exquisite photography, colors, fashion sense, decorating expertise, the whole “fruit thingy!” have brought me. I live for your posts. You are an extraordinary woman and i so admire you. Keep it comin!!!! Its has been getting me through the darkest days of my life. I just cant wait to scroll down and see what is next. Thank you for all the beautiful gifts you provide.
Best,
Leslie M.
I’m totally not deserving of such high praise Leslie, but I’ll thank you for it anyway, being Mother’s Day and all
Wishing you a beautiful day too, and much strength in your journey. Stay positive and hold on to humour whenever you possibly can,
xx

Oh, were you wearing that hat in the photo? I didn’t notice. (I must have been distracted by the smokin’ hot body!)
“Day-o, day-ay-ay-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day-o, day-ay-ay-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Work all night on a drink of rum
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Stack banana till de morning come
Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home…”
Thank you for a most enjoyable post and Happy Mothers Day!
to J.W.: I was actually singing this Belafonte song from the past to myself while I looked at this enchanting post! Thank you for the words as I was doing a lot of la-la-las for forgotten words!
To Beverly Jackson: Pleased to be of service! This post made me so happy the song automatically sprang to mind…
Happy Mother’s Day, Slim!! So many scenarios I would love to sink into…including that blue and white chair in the orange room, and of course the nap scene. That fruit stand is fantastic too!
Great post … perhaps you could lend that hat to one of Fergies daughters for the NEXT Royal Nuptuals : ) …although neither of them would hold a candle to you in it! If anyone can pull it off it’s you.
Happy Mothers Day from one hell of a Motha’ to anotha’. oxL
Happy Mothers Day to you too! Love the post. That is one fruitin’ hat! Back in the day, that would get some cat calls!
Well, well, I guess “Mom” will be buying her own Mother’s Day gift this year. . . Tom Ford’s wonderful perfume along with tangerine polish and be quite happy doing it. Thanks for a sunny start to the week end. All of the fruit looks so good I may eat the Stella fabric and wear the bananas!
I’m new on the list…and already addicted! You brighten my day for sure:)
Where to start? loved it all. Tangerine polish good enough to eat. I really liked the Stella McCartney dress, skirt and want that Kate Spade purse. Love your kitchen, so inviting. Would like to sit on a stool, sip on wine. I have been at that market stand, adorable, but isn’t every thing in Ojai?
Happy Mothers Day Slim ox
Happy Mother’s Day! That Josephine Baker dance looked strangely similar to Kendra’s dance for Len on his birthday on Dancing with the Stars.
Great Post, I want to run that Fruit & Avocado stand when I grow up.
Happy Mothers Day!
Go Canucks Go…
What an enchanting post for a dreary SB day! I want the banana purse the model wearing the banana skirt is carrying! And those Tom Ford products look mighty tempting. This post brings back a wonderful memory to me — when I was young I went with my parents to pre-Castro Cuba and on the night of a full moon we went to see visiting performer Josephine Baker at the Tropicana night club. She started the show, then stopped the music and ordered all the lights be turned out and she did her entire fantastic show by MOON LIGHT!!! A night never to be forgotten!
Really fun Post. Loved the tangerine polish…gonna give it a try.
Happiest of Mothers Day Slim.
As a redhead, I don’t think I’ve ever worn a stitch of orange/tangerine clothing in my life, however, I’m now thinking I just might have to get some tangerine nail polish for my toes this summer. Thanks for a(nother) great post! Have a very happy Mother’s Day!
I just bought orange sandals and I thought,”I don’t know”? Well, now I “know” I did the right thing!
First off, LOVE the new blog header! It captures all things Slim and it is perfect for spring! Second, my next pedicure will be done in tangerine. And finally, if that Tom Ford scent is as pretty as the packaging, I will be sold.
I’m looking forward to spending the day tomorrow with my family. My 3 year old already gave me my Mother’s Day Card and then shortly after spilled the beans on my present. Looks like it is a Mother’s Day weekend for me!
Happy Mother’s Day to you!!
Oh the SHOES!!!! Sensational!!
Happy Mothers Day.
Thank you, I’ll take the Chopard necklace. Those little monkeys are adorable.
Slim,
Happy Mother’s Day to you too. I’m sure your sweet sons are taking good care of their mom!
Karen
yummy. happy mother’s day slim!
I would rather hang in your kitchen than on any fruit tree… Or dress for that matter.
Lifting the gloom you are missy… Will say I just purchased a full blown coral sequined cocktail dress for a black tie wedding in – yep, Canada.
Got the lips… thanks for the polish. Sometimes these simple joys are precious. Leslie….whoever you are…,love and hope . if SP is your Ahhhha
moment… Embrace and hold tight. X
The Kate Spade pineapple bag is to-die-for, as is the Chopard monkey necklace. Happy Mother’s Day!
This is why you are my fave. Happy Mother’s Day!
Just the song I was thinking of – the horses at camp used to love it – wagging their tails in the stable! Love the citrus colors – great inspiration, plus I just bought a shabby green table yesterday, something fruity is definitely in the air. Thank you so much for the glimpse of Josephine Baker, and I am always in awe of the posters of her. Best wishes for a beautiful and delicious day.
Linda
Happy Mother’s Day, Slim! I’m going to show my husband the mojito recipe and put him to work on my Mother’s Day cocktail! Have a great day
another delicious post … love the Stella citus summer dress … yummy … and your exquisite arrangements – always unusual and most lovely ….got to know the fruits in the bottom arrangement – esp the one with the pink leaves and the small round ones that look like grapes- i have the obvious down – passion fruit- pineapple and bananas ;~) the blessings of living in Cali
Happy Mother’s Day to you! ;~)
I snapped that photo in Cambodia Jeanne, so unfortunately I don’t know what that fruit is…Breadfruit, maybe?? Just a wild, and probably wildly inaccurate, guess…
Although the ones I buy when I go to Chinese markets in Alhambra and Monterey Park are usually dark red I believe they are lychee fruit. That spiney shell is removed and we get the slippery white fruit we know inside surrounding a very big hard seed.
Yes, lychees and dragon fruit.
Happy Mother’s Day.
I love your photo’s and blog but when you added Nilsson to the mix you attained perfection!
I really wish I knew about that cantaloupe fascinator before this blog post ~ http://carriesdesignmusings.blogspot.com/2011/04/got-fruit.html ~Love it!
You put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up! Yes I love it. Bring on the Summer! It makes me want to be Carmen Miranda next Halloween.
Thanks Slim. I used to sing that song to my kids when we were in Hawaii. I would swing them around in the water and then throw them into the air as the waves crashed over us. Thanks for yet again making me smile. Go Canucks Go!!
Only a brave woman would wear a hat like that! Bravo!
Have a wonderful day!
xo

Love your new headings Slim! So pretty. I have been behind in my “Slimming.” Such happy posts. They brighten up my day.
Love your hat. The first picture of Carmen Miranda is wonderful.
For me it’s the Charlotte Olympia shoes and the Kate Spade pineapple purse xx
