Thanks for responding-I am new at the blog thing. I look forward to checking in to your blog and seeing what fun thing you have posted about for the day. I appreciate the advice on the bathroom-it really applies to all our bathrooms-and will see if I can find any deep walls. Yes…sounds like our boys are around the same age-mine are a bit older 2 in college, one 13 year old and a 17 year old girl(now she really has a lot of products…makes the boys look puritans)Thanks for making my winter a bit brighter…

Slim, looks fantastic! Having redone my bathroom this summer I know what a sense of accomplishment one feels when a project is done! How did you float the shelves in the niche?

If you can fit a small cabinet above the toilet that is always good spot. I have also used simple glass shelves about the sinks, but below the medicine chests to put things in nice containers. NICE CONTAINERS. Or else you will be looking at zit medicine tubes. You have to mount the shelves low enough so that they clear the med. cabinet door when it opens. If your shower/bath is large enough you can install a towel shelf in the shower to store towels and free up another cabinet for the toiletries.

Merci, Madame Eve, for the analysis and clarification, as I, too ,was a tad confused as to where Slim was going. At first I thought Slim was expounding on the Space Shuttle’s broken toilet and subsequent handling of that situation. I must say, Nasa could have used some of Slim’s bathroom problem solving.

This bathroom is VERY small Jass and there is no extra storage. I put in quite a large medicine cabinet, there is the small wicker drawer, and then as I mentioned in a comment above, there is another larger drawer in the vanity that you don’t really see. The lack of space is why recessing the toilet and floating the glass shelves became such an important issue.
Do you have any walls in your bathroom that are deep enough to recess another cabinet, perhaps mirrored? You really don’t need very much depth for a medicine cabinet.
(It sounds like your boys are at the same stage as my boys!)

That is hilar, Lady Eve- The Rocky Theme. It might shock you to learn that I don’t actually have the “Rocky Theme” on my play list, but for that “Ultra Achievement Feel” of which you speak- I might just have to download it now to save for future renovations!

Hi Diane
The vanity with basket drawer and sink is available from Kohler for $691.00.
You cannot see in the photo (getting a good photo without myself being reflected all over the mirrored wall was not an easy task!) but there is a bottom shelf and drawer as well, just above the feet of the vanity.
